Position Nurse Practitioner (On‑Call/As Needed) – Levels I, II, III Division: Ponca Health Services Department: Health Reports To: Chief Medical Officer / Chief Operating Officer Location: Lincoln, Norfolk, Omaha Exempt/Non‑Exempt: Exempt/Non‑Exempt Salary: Level1 – Grade15, Level2 – Grade16, Level3 – Grade17 Classification: On‑call as needed Summary The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a “Service Delivery Area” comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services. Responsibilities and Duties Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through patient or family interviews and chart reviews; evaluates presenting illness, risk factors, family history, psychosocial situation, cultural factors; performs a comprehensive physical examination. Orders and performs appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, and screening tests; seeks additional information and consultations as needed. Distinguishes normal from abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental health problems. Works independently with full practice authority and collaborates with the care team—clinicians, nurses, and support staff—to determine patient needs; obtains physician input when necessary. Provides surveillance over medical practices to stabilize chronically ill patients; adjusts treatments within established guidelines and refers to physicians or other health team members when indicated. Delivers emergency services or crisis intervention, including life‑saving emergency procedures, to stabilize patients for transport to a hospital facility. Periodically evaluates the medical aspects of treatment plans and recognizes when reassessment by a physician or other health professional is required. Provides medical and preventive care, including nutrition guidance, management of common illnesses, accidents, child growth and development, and child‑rearing support. Consistently documents patient encounters in the electronic health record, enters relevant data, reviews and signs lab results and care plans, and communicates with patients, specialists, and team members. Applies evaluation and management (E&M) coding guidelines accurately; demonstrates coding proficiency. Understands managed‑care and health‑plan requirements for prescription formularies and pre‑certification of labs or diagnostic tests, participating facilities, and medical‑necessity criteria. Utilizes appropriate health and medical resources to coordinate treatment plans in accordance with managed‑care plan requirements. Collaborates with other professionals and agencies involved in health services such as immunizations, disease control, environmental health, health education, research, nursing students, and residency programs. Participates in quality‑assurance functions and leadership roles in required committees; serves as a role model and, when appropriate, mentors clinical staff. Applies sound judgment and systematic problem‑solving to make decisions despite obstacles or resistance. Maintains responsibility for time management, professional relationships, and interpersonal interactions. Utilizes knowledge of the FLHWC health / Ponca Tribe of Nebraska care‑delivery system to aid in planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and recommending programmatic changes. Adheres to the Tribe’s policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications LevelI (Minimum) Active and in good standing BSN license. MasterofScience in Nursing from an accredited program. Two years of clinical experience as a BSN‑Registered Nurse. Active, temporary Nurse Practitioner license in good standing. Active, good standing APRN license and successful completion of a national certification exam. Computer proficiency with electronic health record systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Excellent written and oral communication skills. Valid driver’s license and insurance eligibility. Successful completion of drug/alcohol testing, motor‑vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks. Willingness and ability to travel. Preferred for LevelI Doctorate degree in Nursing. One or more years of experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations. Knowledge of Public Law93‑638: Indian Self‑Determination Education Assistance Act of 1975. Level II All LevelI requirements. Active, good standing APRN license with a minimum of two years of nurse‑practitioner experience. Recognized as an independent Nurse Practitioner by the State of Nebraska. Successful completion of a national certification exam. Unrestricted federal DEA license. Level III All LevelI requirements. Active, good standing APRN license with a minimum of three years of clinical nurse‑practitioner experience and two years as an independent Nurse Practitioner in Nebraska. Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Nursing Practice program. Unrestricted federal DEA license.
