Group Fitness Instructor

Fitness Instructor The fitness instructor is responsible for instructing group fitness classes at the Shakopee Community Center under the supervision of the Fitness Coordinator. This position may teach a variety of formats and may substitute for a variety of formats. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provides instruction in a variety of fitness activities and/or formats. Plans effective and appropriate fitness classes for participants. Monitors well-being, form, and safety of participants throughout classes. Greets participants and makes them feel welcome before, during, and after classes. Arrives well-prepared and on time: arrives before classes to greet participants and to help them to set up, music ready, and exercises planned. Understands and enforces all fitness facility policies, rules, and regulations. Provides participants with modifications and challenges where appropriate. Assumes a leadership role as a professional in the area of fitness and wellness. Assists in the cleaning and general maintenance of the fitness studios and fitness area. Is a team player- substitutes for classes, communicate well with the Fitness Coordinator and team, and helps to positively promote the fitness program to community members. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Group exercise certification (ACE, NETA, AEA or equivalent) and First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required. Certifications or licenses in the formats that the instructor plans to teach required (Zumba, Strong by Zumba, Barre, Cycle, Senior Fitness, etc.) Desired Qualifications: Experience teaching a variety of group fitness classes is preferred. Experience teaching senior classes and/or aqua classes is helpful. Ability to teach early to mid-morning and weekends.
