Director of Strategic Design

Three Notch Group is seeking a Director of Strategic Design to help shape how our company is experienced by clients, employees, recruits, partners, and communities.

This is not a traditional graphic design or marketing-production role. We are looking for an experienced, multidisciplinary creative leader who can translate strategy into experience - connecting our brand, culture, history, and business strategy to the way Three Notch looks, feels, communicates, and engages across every meaningful touchpoint.

Working within Brand Strategy and reporting to the CEO, the Director of Strategic Design will provide strategic and creative leadership across four integrated areas: Experience, Branding, Communications, and Marketing.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design and continuous improvement of the Three Notch experience across client, employee, recruiting, workplace, event, and community touchpoints.
• Serve as a principal steward of the Three Notch brand, ensuring a consistent and distinctive experience across offices, signage, fleet, apparel, presentations, proposals, digital assets, events, and other branded applications.
• Provide strategic and creative direction for corporate and leadership communications, major events, campaigns, recruiting materials, publications, and market-facing initiatives.
• Partner with Executive Leadership, Growth and Business Development, HR, Operations, Market Leaders, and technical teams to translate business objectives into compelling experiences and communications.
• Establish scalable brand standards, creative workflows, templates, quality-control processes, vendor standards, and systems that support continued growth, new offices, and acquisitions.
• Manage strategic design initiatives from concept through implementation, including priorities, timelines, budgets, vendors, quality, and measurable outcomes.
• Use design thinking to identify business and organizational challenges, develop innovative solutions, and challenge conventional expectations of how an engineering and professional-services firm presents and experiences its brand.

What Success Looks Like

During the first year, the Director will assess Three Notch's current brand and experience environment, establish priorities and measurable baselines, and develop a strategic roadmap for continued improvement. Success will include stronger brand consistency, disciplined creative and communication processes, timely and budget-conscious project delivery, measurable improvements to key client and employee experiences, and greater integration of Experience, Branding, Communications, and Marketing across the enterprise.

What You'll Bring

We are seeking an accomplished creative leader with approximately 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in multidisciplinary design, brand, marketing, communications, experience design, or related work. A bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Strategic Design, Experience Design, Product Design, Environmental Design, Graphic Design, Communications, Marketing, or a related creative discipline is preferred.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, systems thinker, builder, storyteller, and collaborator who can move comfortably between big-picture strategy and detailed execution. You should be able to communicate effectively with executives, engineers, marketers, HR professionals, vendors, and field leaders while connecting creative decisions to business objectives and measurable outcomes.

Prior people leadership experience, including demonstrated success in leading, developing, and supporting team members, is required.
