Associate Manager, New Verticals - Retail Strategy & Operations

The New Verticals team is building the future of local commerce by expanding our product offerings on our marketplace platform. We launched in 2020 and have since then built world-class operations to delight our customers with access to Grocery, Convenience, Alcohol, and Retail delivery through our marketplace; this team is shaping the future of DoorDash Retail and how we empower local economies across industries like pets, flowers, home improvement and so much more!

About the Role

As we scale Retail and focus on New Bets, we're hiring a few Associate Managers on our Strategy & Operations team to launch our newest Retail products and selection from the ground up. Throughout the interview process, you will be considered for two roles - one focused on new products and one focused on new selection. You will meet with both hiring managers & we will align based on interview performance, where you’d be the strongest candidate at a final interview.

In these roles, you'll identify net-new areas where we have a "right to win" and work cross-functionally with product, design, analytics, and engineering to build and scale great products in those spaces. You'll drive analysis-backed strategy, run operational experiments, and partner with technical and non-technical teams to take DoorDash's Retail business to the next level.

This role sits at the intersection of strategy, operations, and product. The best operators today are rapidly prototyping ideas, building mocks for user research, putting together product visions, and synthesizing complex analyses — all with the leverage of AI tools. We expect this person to stay at the forefront of how AI is reshaping the work, actively exploring new tools, automating repetitive workflows, and finding ways to do in hours what used to take weeks. The scope of this role will continue to evolve as AI tools become more powerful and accessible, and we want someone who finds that trajectory exciting rather than unsettling.

We operate in a hybrid model and spend a few days a month in person together. This is an individual contributor position.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

• Strategize. From first principles, you’ll develop the optimal strategy for best serving our customers and merchants.
• Operate . You’ll create tracking dashboards for your key metrics and own week over week movement as well as quarterly targets for those metrics.
• Analyze. Build models using SQL, Excel, and AI tools to evaluate the economic, operational and strategic costs and benefits of various programs and experiments
• Experiment. You’ll transform strategies into operational experiments that create measurable and actionable outcomes
• Build. You’ll have your fingerprints all over DoorDash’s next big business. You’ll launch new products, get 1% better every day, and scale something completely new. This means everything from high-level strategy to operational details.
• Lead, collaborate and Influence. You’ll partner with and influence cross-functional teams including growth, quality, design, marketing, partnerships and product team to build and scale the Retail business.

We’re excited about you because…

• You have 4-6+ years of experience. You’ve succeeded in similar cultures that are highly analytical and cross-functional (e.g., startups, tech, operations, strategy, consulting, banking, or a related experience).
• Past operating experience is required - whether that is at a startup, tech company or retailer. You are a scrappy thinker. You have 2+ years experience solving problems to build & scale products in a fast-paced, operational environment.
• You are an owner. You're always looking for opportunities to better your work product and own the outcome – both the good and the bad
• You're entrepreneurial. You have a bias for action and are able to build things from the ground up.
• You’re analytical. You let data win arguments, and you’re comfortable pulling your own data in SQL, building models in excel and leveraging AI tools for analysis.
• You’re equally comfortable operating at 10,000 feet and 1 foot. You don’t hesitate to get in the weeds and operate at the lowest level of detail, but you’re just as comfortable thinking long-term and inspiring a team.
• You’re unafraid of ambiguity. Rapid change and learning is exciting to you, and you thrive in ambiguous, startup environment
• You have a completed Bachelor’s Degree.

Compensation

The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.

In addition to base salary, the compensation for this role includes opportunities for equity grants. Talk to your recruiter for more information.

• For salaried roles: flexible paid time off/vacation, plus 80 hours of paid sick time per year.
• For hourly roles: vacation accrued at about 1 hour for every 25.97 hours worked (e.g. about 6.7 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 3.4 hours/month if working 20 hours/week), and paid sick time accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked (e.g. about 5.8 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 2.9 hours/month if working 20 hours/week).

The national base pay range for this position within the United States, including Illinois and Colorado.

$105,400—$155,000 USD
