Associate Veterinarian
Tempus Veterinary Recruitment
Introduction Our client is a hospital hiring for a full-time Associate Veterinarian to join an established small animal practice that has been providing affordable, high-quality spay and neuter services since 2010. The hospital is looking for an experienced veterinarian who wants to make a real impact by growing professionally while helping to expand the services and future of the practice. For the right candidate, there is the opportunity to step into a Medical Director role immediately or develop into the position over time. Role Description and Responsibilities The Associate Veterinarian will work with cats and dogs, providing a blend of surgery, wellness care, and the opportunity to reintroduce dental services and euthanasia to the hospital. The practice currently focuses on high-volume spay and neuter surgery, with plans to expand its services by January 2027, although an experienced veterinarian would have the opportunity to establish these services sooner. A typical week is expected to include two days of spay and neuter surgery, one day dedicated to dentistry, and one day of wellness appointments. Surgical caseloads are high, with approximately 30 to 40 spay and neuter procedures performed each day in the clinic and up to four dental procedures on designated dental days. The role requires an experienced veterinarian who is confident performing surgery. The ideal candidate will be passionate about surgery, motivated to help grow the hospital, and committed to the practice's mission of improving animal welfare. As the hospital works closely with shelters, rescues, and a feral cat programme, candidates must be comfortable treating feral cats. Practice Details The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and collaborates with Virginia Tech on Fridays. Veterinarians work a four-day week, Monday through Thursday, typically from 8:00 am until approximately 4:30 pm depending on the surgical schedule. There are no weekends, no on-call responsibilities, and the team enjoys a relaxed culture with everyone taking lunch together. The hospital features three preparation tables, three surgical tables, a dedicated dental suite with a handheld portable dental x-ray unit, ultrasound, EKG monitoring, microscopes, and basic laboratory testing facilities. Team The team currently consists of one experienced DVM and one recently hired veterinarian due to the growth of the clinic. Each doctor is supported by one Licensed Veterinary Technician and one Veterinary Assistant, with two additional part-time assistants providing support across some shifts. The hospital has a collaborative, team-oriented culture where management values staffs thoughts and opinions before making decisions. The practice is highly involved within the local community through work with shelters, rescue organisations, and a feral cat programme, making it an excellent fit for veterinarians who are passionate about surgery and giving back to the community.
