MECHANIC SHOP ASSISTANT

JOB TITLE: Mechanic Shop Assistance

REPORTS TO: Bus Shop Supervisor, Transportation Director, and Superintendent

ANNUAL CALENDAR DAYS: 12 months (243 days/8 hours per day)

JOB GOAL

To maintain all district vehicles in a state of operation that prohibits interruptions to the education program and to serve as substitute for bus drivers when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Opelika City Board of Education.

Must possess at least 5 years' full-time (40 hours a week) experience in automotive or bus/truck repair.

Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate the ability to communicate well with others.

Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.

High school diploma or GES required.

Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with "P" and "S" endorsements required and be insurable for vehicle operation (within 6 months of employment).

Alabama School Bus Driver Certification by the Alabama State Department of Education (within 6 months of employment).

Mechanic Certification required by the Alabama State Department of Education (within 6 months of employment).

Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

-Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of system owned vehicles.
-Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment
-Keep an accurate log of all inspections/repairs and prepare reports as needed.
-Serve as a route drive in emergencies.
-Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
-Perform any other pertinent assignment assigned by the Bus Shop Supervisor, Transportation Director and/or the Superintendent to assist in the efficiency and effectiveness of the Bus Shop.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND SALARY

Employment is for 12 months, 243 days. Salary to be determined, commensurate with the salary matrix, credentials, and experience, $42,473.00 - $61,243.00.


EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support personnel.
