Mexican American Opportunity Foundation EARLY HEAD START PROGRAM TITLE: Home Visitor I/II PROGRAM: MAOF Early Head Start-CCP (Los Angeles County) HOURLY SALARY: $20.80-$28.55 FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full-Time CLOSING DATE: Open until filled GENERAL SUMMARY Under general supervision, the Home Visitor works with parents and children in the family's home environment. The Home Visitor works one-on-one with the child's primary caregiver to support the child's development, strengthen the parent's role as the child's first teacher, and provide services in accordance with Head Start Home-Based Program requirements. COMPONENT MISSION Provide children with a learning environment that supports their social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development based on their age and developmental stage. Integrate the educational aspects of the Head Start service areas into the Home-Based Curriculum. Engage parents in the educational activities of the program. Strengthen the parent's role as the primary influence in their child's education and development. Increase parents' knowledge and skills related to child development. Help parents identify everyday home experiences that can be used as educational activities for their children. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Home Visitor's duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Environmental and Safety Implement safety procedures and supervise children during program activities. Inspect facilities used for group socialization activities and report safety concerns. Assist children during mealtimes and model appropriate dental and personal hygiene practices. Maintain a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment during home visits, socializations, and program activities. Developmental and Educational Services Maintain a caseload of up to twelve (12) families. Conduct weekly home visits with each assigned family for a minimum of one and one-half (1) hours. Provide two (2) group socialization experiences each month for enrolled families. Support parents in using developmentally appropriate practices with their children. Help parents identify and use materials and resources available in the home and community. Prepare lesson plans based on the program curriculum and the individual needs of each child and family. Conduct monthly observations of each child and family. Complete child assessments using approved program assessment tools. Develop and implement individualized educational plans, as applicable. Support parents in promoting their child's social, cognitive, language, physical, and emotional development. Plan and supervise field trips and group socialization activities. Conduct Head Start Home-Based Committee meetings as assigned. Communicate verbally and in writing with parents in their preferred or primary language. Provide classroom coverage or substitute at program centers as needed. Administrative Responsibilities Record and maintain accurate attendance and participation information. Prepare and submit required reports and documentation within established timelines. Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential child and family records. Participate in Home-Based Program meetings. Attend required orientations, in-service training sessions, conferences, workshops, and professional development activities. Perform other related duties as assigned. SUPERVISION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Supervision This position receives direct supervision from the Child Development Supervisor. Because this is primarily a field-based position, the Home Visitor is expected to work independently and complete assigned duties with minimal daily supervision. Internal Relationships The Home Visitor regularly works with the Child Development Supervisor; Health, Nutrition, Family Services, Disabilities, Mental Health, and Parent Involvement staff; trainers; consultants; and other program staff. External Relationships The Home Visitor regularly interacts with parents, caregivers, enrolled families, Head Start Home-Based Committee members, community partners, and service providers. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Home Visitor II: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, and possession of a valid California Child Development Teacher Permit (or higher). Home Visitor I: Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, and possession of a valid California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit (or higher). Minimum of twenty-four (24) semester units in Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development. Minimum of two (2) years of paid experience working with infants, toddlers, preschool-aged children, or families in an early childhood education setting. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently with minimal supervision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications. Valid California Driver's License, reliable transportation, and proof of current automobile liability insurance. Must successfully complete all pre-employment health requirements, including a physical examination, Tuberculosis (TB) clearance, required immunizations (influenza, pertussis, and measles), and any required drug screening. Must obtain and maintain criminal background clearance through the FBI, DOJ, and CACI as a condition of employment. Regular attendance is required. This position requires frequent local travel to conduct home visits, attend meetings, trainings, and community activities. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of the position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate, use their hands to handle or operate materials and equipment, and perform computer and documentation tasks. The employee is frequently required to sit, reach, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and participate in activities with children and families. The employee may occasionally be required to lift or move items weighing up to fifteen (15) pounds. Required vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The Home Visitor works in family homes, MAOF facilities, childcare centers, community settings, and other program-approved locations. The position involves regular interaction with children, parents, staff, and community partners and may include exposure to varying noise levels, household conditions, weather, and travel between locations. The Home Visitor is generally scheduled to work Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may occasionally be required to attend meetings, training sessions, socializations, or program events outside the regular work schedule.
