Clinical Dietitian - ELMC

$36.46 - $51.29 per hour

Pay Range $36.46 - $51.29. The Dietitian position is part of the Medical Nutrition Services department, serving on the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient care that is integrated, compatible with patient‑focused medical goals, and culturally appropriate in accordance with SEARHC’s strategic goals. Perform professional and confidential nutrition management for a wide range of clinical problems for both inpatients and outpatients, manage daily problems, stay current in all clinical areas, conduct literature searches, and consult with medical staff and other dietitians. Prioritize time within food service constraints, short‑term admissions, and coordination with the healthcare team. Maintain and apply current scientific knowledge about food and nutrition for individuals and groups in health and disease, promoting optimal health outcomes within the social, economic, and cultural context of the Alaska Native/American Indian population, in line with SEARHC’s primary objectives. Shift Details M-F 8-5 Key Essential Functions And Accountabilities Of The Job Ambulatory Medical Nutrition Therapy: Provide individual or group nutrition screening, assessment, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation using the Nutrition Care Process for ambulatory patients; document nutrition care in the patient’s medical record and include relevant coding. Inpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy: Conduct nutrition screening, assessment, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation for all hospitalized patients at all levels of care and age; document nutrition care in the patient’s medical record. Long Term Care: Work with the multidisciplinary long‑term care team to provide nutrition guidance and individual assessments, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation using the Nutrition Care Process for residents; document nutrition care in the resident’s record. Hospital Nutrition Services: Collaborate with Hospital Nutrition Services staff to clarify or communicate patient diet orders, food preferences, menu choices, and formula needs; complete menu revisions, modifications, and nutrient analysis of inpatient menus. Team Membership: Serve as a member of the Diabetes Team and Patient Care Conference when workload permits; provide department leave and on‑call coverage in collaboration with the Clinical Nutrition Manager; assist with teaching diabetes prevention program, community activities, and other nutrition promotion activities. Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required Master’s Degree from a school whose Nutrition, Dietetic, Institutional Management Programs is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Dietetic Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure from the State of Alaska; professional licensing required within six months of hire if not already obtained. Certification in any dietetic specialty is preferred. Basic Life Support. Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years. Experience Required Completion of an approved dietetic internship program. At least 1 year of experience as a clinical dietitian is preferred. Knowledge of Medical nutrition therapy and clinical knowledge. Working level computer knowledge. Human behavior and techniques for effective behavior change. Skills In Clinical nutrition services: screening, assessment, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation using the Nutrition Care Process for patients at all levels of care and age. Education, counseling, and teaching. Using basic computer software: Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Resource Patient Management System (RPMS), or other electronic medical record charting software. Ability to Work with other staff members: Hospital Nutrition staff and other healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, ward clerks, and diabetes team members. Function independently on assigned patient care units. Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to patients, the public, hospital and medical staff, and physicians. Travel to remote locations is preferred; travel may be by jet, small aircraft, and ferry. Required Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association; Clinical Competency Assessment – SEARHC; Registered Dietitian – Alaska Division of Corporations, Business, and Professional Licensing. #J-18808-Ljbffr
