Custodian

Location: King Street Intermediate School Purpose Statement The job of Custodian was established for the purpose of providing custodial services at assigned site(s); ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations; and assisting in preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events. Essential Functions Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g., classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, cafeteria, multipurpose rooms) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment. Performs minor, job‑related maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture and fixtures (e.g., changing vacuum‑cleaner belts, bags) to ensure proper functioning and usability. Performs summer maintenance (e.g., strip/wax floors, relocate furniture, painting) to facilitate construction. Prepares the site for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways) to keep facilities operational and hazard‑free. Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies (e.g., paper towels, soap) to maintain adequate daily quantities. Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, vandalism, alarms) and takes appropriate action or notifies personnel for resolution. Assists in maintaining seasonal grounds work (e.g., snow removal). Performs work at heights of up to 12 feet using ladders or scaffolding for cleaning, changing lightbulbs, replacing ceiling tiles. Ensures daily attendance and punctuality for the success of the work unit. Secures facilities and grounds (e.g., doors, gates, alarms, lights) to minimize property damage, equipment loss and liability. Supports district maintenance staff (e.g., grounds, trades, general maintenance) for effective custodial activities. Attends in‑service training (e.g., blood‑borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid) to stay informed on improved procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products, and equipment. Knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. Ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly regarding cleaning chemicals and products. Ability to work with little or no supervision. Team‑building skills. Effective verbal and listening communication skills. Qualifications Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Physical Demands The Custodian role is physically demanding. The incumbent must stand, walk, lift heavy objects, and operate medium‑weight cleaning equipment (e.g., floor buffers, sweeping and mopping tools, moving desks and furniture). Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds (cleaning supplies, pails, trucks) and occasionally up to 100 pounds (salt, bulk furniture) is required. The job also involves pushing and pulling items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines. Vision abilities needed include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Working Conditions Monday through Friday Hours: 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm (hours may be adjusted to meet district needs) Grade 1 Custodian pay based on Union Contract. #J-18808-Ljbffr
