Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of cardiac floor experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in the Cardiac Telemetry unit of a hospital setting
• Care for patients with cardiac diagnoses including Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, vasculitis, and carotid stenosis
• Support post-surgical patients from CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO/Watchman, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, and other vascular or thoracic surgeries
• Patient ratios vary by acuity, ranging from 1:4 for surgical step-down to 1:5-6 for lower acuity patients
• Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts from 18:45 to 7:15
• 36 hours per week only
• Contract length of 13 weeks, with options up to 26 weeks
• Float requirement follows unit rotation, with travelers not first to float
• Weekend requirement of 4 shifts per 4-week period, with some flexibility
• Uses Pyxis for medication management, EPIC for documentation, and SBAR for communication
• Unit orientation is 24 hours
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at time of submission
• Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
• First-time travelers considered only if they have more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Current certifications: BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS preferred
• Experience with cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown care, sheath removal, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience managing cardiac drips required; titration experience preferred
• Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), external CPAP/BIPAP, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
• Arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, and charge nurse experience preferred
• EPIC charting experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Former Novant Health/New Hanover PERM, PRN, or EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval

Additional Information

• Provide cardiac telemetry nursing care including monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and post-procedure care for cardiac and thoracic surgical patients
• Utilize specialized equipment including arterial lines, Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-Stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires
• Navy scrubs required
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
• No RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
• Travel pairs are allowed, provided each clinician is assigned to a different unit and disclosed at submission
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, as both are not permitted simultaneously
