Examiner Nurse Practitioner

Position Purpose As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in relation to their in-service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran. By providing an exceptional experience during these examinations we aim to positively impact each Veteran. These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive as a result of service-connected health issues. Our valuable clinical insights will play a significant role in facilitating access to treatment subspecialists when necessary, creating continuity of care for those who need it most. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, work independently and collaboratively, have strong interpersonal skills, be adaptable to changing situations, and possess basic computer skills. Please note that this position does not involve prescribing or treatment planning/delivery. Job Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, physical examinations, and assessing impact on daily life and functional abilities. 10% travel to other LSGS Clinics is required. Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the veteran’s medical history and health condition. Render objective medical opinions based on examination findings, diagnostic results, and records, providing unbiased, evidence-based assessments of the extent of health issues and their impact on work and daily activities. Manage case workload and submit examination findings to the Quality Assurance Team using the case management system. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts to obtain additional medical information. Accurately document examination findings in clear and concise reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations. Partner with all Loyal Source departments to gain support and resources for task completion and meeting deadlines. Manage time effectively, ensuring availability and scheduling for all C&P exams. Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and results in accordance with HIPAA compliance. Qualifications Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practice in any U.S. state. At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner. Preferred experience conducting medical disability examinations or related field. Basic Life Support certification required, including renewals. Previous military experience or familiarity with military or veteran communities preferred. Completion of specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous. Proficient in comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence-based opinions. Compassionate and empathetic approach toward patients. Strong analytical, critical thinking, communication, ethics, and integrity. Detail-oriented with focus on accuracy, data quality, and alignment with LS and VA standards. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong customer focus and sense of urgency. Authorized to work in the United States and meet federal contractor requirements. Technical and Physical Requirements Technological Ability: Competent in MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web-based platforms, electronic medical records systems; familiarity with Teams and learning management systems preferred. Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing and sitting at a desk, working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds, see, hear, smell, bend, stretch, and engage in full range of motion.
