Zoological Care & Research Intern

Internship Overview The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden internship program offers 14‑week, stipend‑paid positions across a variety of departments focused on animal care, nutrition, conservation, education, and veterinary support. Interns receive hands‑on training, mentorship, and opportunities to contribute to research and outreach projects. Responsibilities Assist animal care staff with habitat maintenance, enrichment, and routine husbandry tasks. Participate in animal training sessions and observe husbandry procedures. Collect and record data for behavioral and nutritional studies. Support educational programming and visitor engagement activities. Perform supporting duties such as inventory management, diet preparation, and laboratory procedures. Follow safety protocols, including handling of chemicals, animals, and equipment. Qualifications Minimum age 18 with a strong interest in zoological or botanical fields. Commitment to a full 14‑week internship with 40‑hour work weeks and occasional weekend/holiday work. Physical ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 75 lbs. Proficiency in communication, both written and oral. Critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in a team. Preferred: coursework in animal biology, zoology, psychology, or related sciences; experience in research or animal care.
