Certified Surgical Tech

Job Summary Certified Surgical Tech (Surgical Technologist) – Methodist Hospital Metropolitan, part of HCA Healthcare. Work Hours Daily schedule: 11:00 am – 7:00 pm with on‑call duties. Primary duties involve assisting with surgical care, planning and anticipating surgeon and procedure needs, and coordinating with the circulating perioperative nurse. The role requires competency in all major surgical specialties and strict adherence to AORN and regulatory standards. Qualifications High School graduate or GED equivalent required. Graduate of a surgical technologist program, or hire prior to 9/1/2009 may replace education with one year of hospital surgical technologist experience. No prior experience required if education or experience prerequisites are met. Completion of initial and ongoing training and competency requirements defined by the service line, facility, and department/unit. Licensing & Certifications Non‑certified : no license or certificate required for the Sterile Processing Department; other departments must meet the Texas HB 643 provision regarding certification for post‑09/01/2009 hires. Certified : must hold one of the following: CST – Certified Surgical Technologist (National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) TS‑C‑Tech in Surgery – Certified through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Responsibilities Plan and obtain equipment and supplies needed for assigned procedures based on physician preferences and patient needs. Prepare equipment and supplies per manufacturer’s recommendations and specifications. Open sterile packs, instruments, and supplies each procedure following aseptic techniques and protocols. Monitor the sterile field during procedures; take corrective action for any breaches. Prepare medications and solutions per the Registered Nurse’s direction and physician orders. Maintain accountability for instruments, sponges, and sharps throughout procedures to prevent retained foreign objects. Follow safety procedures for timeout, handling sharp instruments, powered equipment, hazardous chemicals, and lasers. Perform high‑level disinfection as required per established policies.
