Custodian

In keeping a tradition of excellence, the Custodian will provide students, staff, and guests with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop. The duties and responsibilities include attending meetings, keeping building and premises neat and clean, regulating heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, sweeping classrooms, monitoring activities for safety, cleaning corridors, scrubbing and disinfecting toilets, washing windows, keeping grounds free from rubbish, performing yard keeping chores, keeping floors clean, making minor building repairs, maintaining mechanical equipment, reporting damage to school property, assuming responsibility for building opening and closing, keeping an inventory of supplies, replenishing classroom and restroom supplies, conducting an ongoing program of general maintenance, moving furniture or equipment, performing summer maintenance, maintaining district owned fixed assets, securing facilities and grounds, undergoing periodic evaluations, maintaining confidentiality, and performing other duties as requested.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, passing the agility test, prior related experience, and specific skill-based competencies required to perform the functions of the job including operating equipment used in industrial maintenance, adhering to safety practices, performing multi-step written and oral instructions, scheduling activities, gathering and collating data, using job-related equipment, working with a wide diversity of individuals, working with data utilizing defined and similar processes, operating equipment using standardized methods, working with constant interruptions, adapting to changing work priorities, meeting deadlines and schedules, working as part of a team, and working with specific, job-related data.

Physical demands include talking or hearing/understanding English, significant lifting, reaching, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job requires 5% sitting, 70% walking, and 25% standing. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The work environment is not a standard office setting; but rather encompasses the entire active school campus both inside and outside the facilities. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high.
