LOCATION: Aquinas Catholic Community School POSITION STATUS: Part-Time

MINISTRY VISION : The Part-Time School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health and wellness of students and staff while ensuring compliance with all Indiana state school nursing laws, regulations, and guidelines. The nurse will oversee student medical documentation, provide direct health services, coordinate health education initiatives, and maintain staff CPR certification records.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provide daily nursing care and first aid to students and staff as needed.
• Assess and respond to student illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and Indiana state guidelines.
• Develop, review, and maintain individualized student health plans, including care plans for students with chronic medical conditions.
• Monitor immunization compliance and required health screenings.

Medical Records Management

Create, organize, and maintain accurate and confidential student medical files.

• Ensure all medical documentation complies with Indiana Department of Education and state school nursing regulations.
• Maintain records related to:
  • Immunizations
  • Medication administration
  • Health care plans
  • Emergency medical information
  • Student screenings and referrals
• Ensure confidentiality and secure storage of all medical records in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines where applicable.

Compliance and State Regulations

• Follow all Indiana state school nursing laws, policies, and professional standards.
• Maintain current nursing licensure and required certifications.
• Assist administration in ensuring school compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Participate in required professional development and training.
• Communicate with parents, teachers, and school staff as needed regarding regulations.

Health and Wellness Education

• Plan and conduct monthly student presentations focused on health, wellness, safety, hygiene, nutrition, mental health awareness, and other age-appropriate topics.
• Collaborate with teachers and administration to support school-wide wellness initiatives.
• Promote healthy habits and preventative care among students.

Staff CPR and Safety Records

• Maintain and update teacher and staff CPR certification records.
• Monitor certification expiration dates and notify staff regarding renewal requirements.
• Assist in coordinating CPR and first aid training opportunities for staff members.

Communication and Collaboration

• Communicate effectively with parents, staff, physicians, and outside agencies regarding student health concerns.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, special education staff, and administrators to support student well-being.
• Participate in meetings related to student health and safety as requested.
• Attend school meetings and training to stay up-to-date on policies and procedures, and other school functions as needed.
• Adhere strictly to professional ethics and school policies.
• Maintain confidentiality in all matters.
• May be asked to provide assistance/coverage in other areas when a need presents itself.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment toward the position and the mission of the Diocese of Gary, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish, and the School.
• Must comply with all areas addressed in the employment agreement and policies of Aquinas Catholic Community School and the Diocese of Gary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to respond quickly to medical emergencies.
• Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.
• Lift and move items up to thirty pounds.
• While performing the duties of this job, employees are required to stand, walk, stoop, talk, reach, feel, sit, climb, grasp, hear and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Lift and move items up to thirty pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Employees are required to do computer work. Attendance at evening or weekend meetings may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current or working toward Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Indiana.
• Previous pediatric, school nursing, or community health experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Indiana school nursing laws and health regulations.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Strong organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
