Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250

• Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 36 hours per week, approximately three shifts per week
• Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:30 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including Saturday and Sunday
• Holiday Requirement: Rotating holiday coverage
• Call Requirement: None
• Charting System: EPIC electronic health record
• Unit: Surgical Acute/Medical-Surgical unit with approximately 63 beds

Med/Surg RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in Illinois, or confirmation that the Illinois RN license application process has been initiated
• At least 1 year of recent Medical-Surgical (Med/Surg) or acute-care nursing experience
• Experience caring for post-operative surgical and medical-surgical patients
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking skills, and the ability to recognize when additional support is needed
• Professional communication skills and a patient-centered bedside manner
• Ability to float to comparable units and care for patients within the nurse’s level of experience
• Successful completion of required background, drug screening, and onboarding processes

Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to post-operative, trauma, overflow medical, and acute-care patients
• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, administer medications, monitor patient status, and communicate changes to the care team
• Provide wound and dressing care, IV therapy, pain management, drain care, and care of nasogastric tubes, central lines, and TPN
• Manage patients receiving heparin infusions according to established protocols
• Support patients requiring CPAP and high-flow therapy in collaboration with respiratory therapy
• Monitor telemetry patients and coordinate with monitor technicians regarding patient status
• Assist with activities of daily living, mobility, turning, and fall-prevention interventions
• Collaborate with patient care technicians, providers, charge nurses, house supervisors, and interdisciplinary team members
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in EPIC
• Participate in unit orientation and maintain a flexible, team-oriented approach to patient care
