Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Emergency Room

Job Description

This is a psychiatric nursing position focused on providing high-quality care in an emergency room setting. The Registered Nurse (RN) will conduct intake assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver optimal treatment for patients experiencing mental health crises.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and their relatives to gather comprehensive case history.
• Plan and provide nursing care tailored to the individual needs of patients.
• Make nursing diagnoses regarding the medical and emotional status of patients and recommend effective treatment options.
• Consult with psychiatrists and other behavioral health professionals to design appropriate treatment plans.
• Administer and monitor reactions to psychotropic medications.
• Facilitate access to additional medical attention when necessary.
• Help clients understand their emotional disturbances and the necessity of treatment.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
• Document all patient information consistently and accurately per established standards.
• Perform administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, and completing progress notes within the electronic documentation system.

Schedule

This position requires a 3x12 hour shift schedule with blocked weekends and holidays.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current NY RN License.
• BLS Certification from the American Heart Association.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in psychiatric nursing.
• Telemetry experience preferred.
