You will also support light-commercial customers, including offices, retail spaces, and rooftop package-unit systems.This is an opportunity to work for a stable local company that values honest service, quality workmanship, professional growth, and work-life balance. You will have the independence to manage service calls while receiving support from an experienced and collaborative team.How You Will Make an ImpactDiagnose, maintain, and repair residential and light-commercial HVAC systems.Perform replacement installations of furnaces, air-conditioning systems, heat pumps, air handlers, mini-splits, and related equipment.Independently manage assigned service calls and communicate findings clearly to customers.Prepare accurate repair and replacement estimates using company-provided field-service technology.Recommend appropriate solutions without unnecessary or high-pressure selling.Perform startup, testing, and quality-control procedures following repairs and installations.Complete accurate service notes, equipment documentation, photographs, and customer updates using a company-provided tablet or smartphone.Work safely in attics, crawl spaces, basements, mechanical rooms, and on flat commercial rooftops.Collaborate with technicians, helpers, office staff, and company leadership to complete work efficiently.Participate in the company’s weekly on-call rotation.Assist with residential service-plumbing work when trained and qualified.Maintain a clean, organized company vehicle and professional appearance while working in customers’ homes and businesses.Required Qualifications and ExperienceRelevant HVAC service, repair, or replacement-installation experience.Ability to independently diagnose common residential HVAC system issues.Experience working with furnaces, air-conditioning systems, heat pumps, mini-splits, air handlers, and related controls.EPA Refrigerant Certification.Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.Ability to communicate professionally with homeowners and commercial customers.Ability to safely lift, carry, climb, bend, kneel, and work in confined or elevated areas.High school diploma, GED, or equivalent practical experience.Willingness to participate in a weekly on-call rotation.Preferred Qualifications and ExperienceThree or more years of HVAC service or installation experience.Experience independently running residential service calls.Experience performing HVAC replacement installations.Familiarity with light-commercial rooftop package units.Residential service-plumbing experience or willingness to be cross-trained.Experience preparing repair or replacement estimates.Familiarity with Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, or similar field-service software.Strong customer-service, communication, and problem-solving skills.A dependable, flexible, and team-oriented work style.Compensation and Benefits$30–$45+ per hour, based on demonstrated technical ability, independence, and overall experience.Biweekly pay.Commission opportunities for appropriate repair and replacement recommendations.Overtime earning potential.Weekly on-call bonus.Additional payment for each billable on-call service call.Company vehicle, with take-home privileges when assigned to on-call coverage.Medical, life, and disability insurance options.401(k) retirement plan with employer match.Paid holidays and vacation.Paid training and manufacturer-certification opportunities.OSHA, fall-protection, lift, and other safety training.Company-provided smartphone or tablet.Personal tool-replacement program.Mentoring, cross-training, and professional-development opportunities.What Success Looks LikeYou can confidently diagnose and resolve common HVAC service issues.You complete replacement installations safely and professionally.You communicate honestly and clearly with customers.You document work accurately and follow through on assigned calls.You are willing to assist the team when late-day, emergency, or varied service needs arise.You take pride in your work and consistently do the right thing for the customer.About A & J InstallationA & J Installation is a long-established, family-owned HVAC and mechanical-service company serving homeowners and light-commercial customers throughout Rockland County, Upper Bergen County, and Lower Orange County.Our work primarily consists of HVAC service, repairs, maintenance, and equipment replacements.
