Outpatient Phlebotomist

Employment Type: Full time Shift: The position requires flexibility to work between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 1-hour lunch break. You will also rotate one Saturday every 4 weeks from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Hours: Full time, 32, 36, or 40 hours a week. Department: Outpatient Lab Minimum rate of pay: $17.46 per hour plus additional benefits. Location: Qualified applicants must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to all Clinical Lab Locations: Ann Arbor, Brighton, Canton, Milan, Plymouth, Ypsilanti. Training Requirement: All new team members must attend mandatory full-time training. The paid training is Monday‑Friday, during normal business hours, and will last at least 8 weeks. Candidates must have open availability for this requirement. This is not a summer‑only opportunity; team members must be able to maintain a consistent schedule. Position Purpose Performs phlebotomy, specimen receipt, processing, specimen distribution, computer order entry and/or requisition completion, and other pre‑analytical tasks as required. Tracks specimens through appropriate computer functions when available, to ensure that all specimens are routed accurately and in a timely manner. Assures complete and accurate patient samples, patient demographics, and diagnosis codes are provided, and submits to the laboratory for testing. Required Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of phlebotomy, medical assistant or patient care technician training. Experience: Previous phlebotomy experience preferred. Formal training and certification as a phlebotomist is not required but preferred. Experience is highly preferred. Understand laboratory requisitions and locate missing or incomplete information. Complete specimen handling and processing, including centrifugation of vacutainer and aliquoting/pouring over of specimens. Complete follow‑up tasks as needed. Maintain minimum supply levels and keep workstation and section clean. Register outpatients in the hospital electronic medical record system (EPIC) and determine preliminary patient or insurance payment obligation.
