• Pay Rate: $67.00 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: 4x12 D/N rotation — 0700–1900 / 1900–0700; every other weekend

Job Summary

This is a high-volume MS/Tele unit at a tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds in Rochester, NY. The unit serves as a complex care unit for Medicine, ortho overflow, and complex long-term patients. Floating is required. First-time travelers are accepted with experience meeting the patient ratio requirement. Candidates must be more than 75 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:7 on a high-volume MedSurg/Telemetry unit
• Perform continuous telemetry monitoring on the unit
• Utilize Rapid Response/Code teams as appropriate
• Manage patients with pacemakers (temporary and permanent)
• Provide feeding tube care and management
• Administer blood products
• Perform central line care and management
• Manage peripheral line care and PICC lines
• Start IVs and maintain vascular access
• Implement and manage Heparin protocols
• Care for ortho trauma and total joint replacement patients
• Manage surgical drains
• Provide high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy and manage other oxygen delivery devices including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, and portable oxygen tanks
• Perform tracheostomy management
• Implement and maintain isolation precautions
• Provide wound care and wound vac management
• Perform phlebotomy as needed
• Function in a charge nurse capacity as required
• Chart using the EPIC EHR system

Required Skills

• MS/Tele clinical skills including telemetry monitoring on the unit
• Charge nurse experience
• Experience with patient ratios of 1:6 (required) and ability to manage 1:5 to 1:7 ratios
• Proficiency with EPIC charting system
• Experience with pacemakers (temporary and permanent)
• Feeding tube care and management
• Blood product administration
• Central line care and management
• Peripheral line care and management; PICC line management
• IV starts
• Heparin protocols
• Ortho trauma and total joint replacement patient care
• Surgical drain management
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and oxygen delivery device management (nasal cannula, face masks, portable oxygen tanks)
• Tracheostomy management
• Isolation precautions

Education Requirements

• NY RN License required — must be in hand at time of submission. No exceptions. NY is not a Compact state.
• BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required — must include valid NIHSS in submittal

Required Experience

• Experience in MS/Tele nursing with ability to meet 1:6 patient ratio requirement
• Charge nurse experience required
• EPIC EHR experience required
• First-time travelers accepted with qualifying patient ratio experience

• Tertiary care hospital setting — 528 total staffed beds
• High-volume MS/Tele unit serving complex medicine, ortho overflow, and long-term patients
• 4x12 day/night rotating shifts (0700–1900 / 1900–0700)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required
• Scrub color: navy on bottom, navy or white on top
