Essential Job Duties The Financial Counselor is responsible for reviewing hospital admissions and pre‑admissions to ensure accuracy of financial and demographic documentation is entered into the computer system. Responsibilities include screening patients for possible charity, uninsured discount, HPE Medi‑Cal, ensuring that all required forms are completed on each patient and procedure. They provide application support and refer patients to the appropriate department, person or vendor for follow‑up. Qualifications Minimum two years’ experience in a hospital admitting or medical business office. Experience with HMO and self‑pay collections. Experience screening patients for various state and county assistance programs. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of insurance benefits, covered services, billing, and collection procedures for all insurance programs for acute facilities. Essential knowledge of California collection law, insurance billing and reimbursement rules/regulations, COBRA, EMTALA and federal/state regulations. Computer experience preferred. Prior collection experience preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Benefits Challenging and rewarding work environment.
