Registered Nurse (RN) in Psychiatric Geriatric

A registered nurse (RN) executes comprehensive nursing care activities on the Geropsychiatric Unit. This position is responsible for assessing, monitoring, recording, and reporting symptoms or changes in patient conditions. RNs are required to maintain accurate patient reports and medical histories. They perform mental and physical assessments. They administer medication and treatment to patients. They provide assistance to patients with daily activities and observe reactions. RNs are responsible for managing activities with the therapeutic milieu, including daily groups and education. They conduct one-on-one sessions with individual patients. They collaborate with other members of the treatment team to ensure the best possible care for the patients. RNs complete individualized treatment plans for each patient upon admission and ongoing with the multidisciplinary treatment team. They plan, implement, and coordinate nursing care activities for patients. RNs conduct therapies in accordance with patients' diagnoses and needs. They perform treatment interventions following physician orders, such as medication administration and medical treatment orders. They collaborate with physicians, multidisciplinary team members, and outside health and social agencies. RNs provide efficient discharge plans and obtain accurate histories at admission. They complete all required documentation relevant to patients in a timely, efficient manner. This includes admission paperwork, assessments (mental and physical), and progress notes. RNs ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and regulatory standards. They possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of medical terminology is required. Experience in interventions, evaluations, and discharge paperwork is essential.
