Job Title SUBSTITUTE Teacher or Aides for Early Childhood: Spanish, Chinese, and/or Japanese-Immersion Language Department & Reporting Department: Faculty. Reports to: Head of Early Childhood. Status: Non Exempt. Grades: Pre-k Low-K, K & Aides. Duration: On-Call (M-F) throughout the school term. Compensation Sub Early Childhood Teacher Aides: $24.00/hour Sub Early Childhood Teachers: $26.00/hour Overview The International School of Portland is always looking for passionate educators to join our substitute family. We proactively build a pool of talented Spanish, Chinese, Japanese speaking candidates and pull from this group first when openings occur. Our Early Childhood program is a warm multicultural environment where students are fully immersed in Spanish, Japanese, or Chinese language and culture. A Language Immersion Substitute teacher or Aide will use the target language throughout the day while engaged with students. We seek creative, play-based, inquiry teachers motivated by new opportunities and challenges. This role offers the chance to experience the IB/PYP education with our pre-K, Low K, K, and Kindergarteners. Candidates must be committed to the mission and vision of the International School of Portland and demonstrate the values of the IB Primary Years Program and Learner Profile. The ideal candidate will meet the needs of diverse learners and be a collaborative team player. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Capable of traveling to multiple on-campus locations, including hills and stairs, carrying up to 40 pounds, standing and sitting for extended periods, typing for long durations, and reading on a computer screen. There may be flexibility for an EC substitute to cover elementary grade levels, specifically from First through Fifth grade. Preferred Qualifications Native-level fluency in Spanish, Chinese, or Japanese. At least 1 year experience working with preschool-aged children. A Bachelor's degree in Education or Early Childhood/Elementary Education is preferred. Knowledge of Inquiry-Based Primary Years Program pedagogy is a plus. Experience teaching or working in an immersion program. Experience in a multicultural environment. Experience using technology in the classroom. Ability to pass a background check. Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. No visa sponsorships available. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Teaching/Education or equivalent experience. Basic understanding of spoken and written English. Demonstrated proficiency in the target language and ability to teach it. At least 6 months to 1 year of professional teaching experience in a language immersion classroom or similar setting. Existing or ability to obtain specific certifications and trainings.
