Maintenance Technician

Job Title: RME Mechatronics & Robotics Technician (Temporary) Job Description

This role supports the Operations Maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing automated material handling, packaging, and distribution equipment in a fast-paced facility. You will work with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and robotic systems to keep conveyor and material handling equipment operating safely and efficiently, while completing preventive and predictive maintenance and troubleshooting complex issues.

Responsibilities

• Promote a safe working environment by consistently following all safety procedures and standards.

• Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging, distribution, and material handling equipment, including conveyor systems and related components.

• Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance routines on material handling equipment and document all work accurately and completely.

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues on material handling equipment such as belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and related components.

• Diagnose issues using blueprints, electrical schematics, and test equipment such as multimeters to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

• Support the maintenance of pneumatic systems and other automated equipment to ensure consistent and reliable operation.

• Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues across the operations facility and collaborate effectively with other teams to resolve equipment issues.

• Track, manage, and store department inventory, parts, and tools to ensure availability for maintenance activities.

• Move, lift, and position equipment and parts weighing up to 49 pounds as part of daily maintenance tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Stand, walk, and move throughout the facility during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Travel between departments, floors, and areas of the property as needed to perform maintenance tasks and respond to equipment issues.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• At least 2 years of experience working with automated conveyor systems and controls.

• At least 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment.

• At least 2 years of experience performing predictive and preventive maintenance procedures.

• At least 1 year of experience reading and interpreting blueprints and electrical schematics.

• At least 1 year of knowledge and hands-on experience with electrical and electronic principles.

• Ability to safely and effectively use a multimeter for electrical testing and troubleshooting.

• Hands-on troubleshooting experience with electrical and mechanical systems.

• Experience as a maintenance technician working with equipment such as conveyors and material handling systems.

• Working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial or maintenance environment.

• Ability to perform preventive maintenance and follow established maintenance procedures.

• Ability to interpret schematics and blueprints to support maintenance and repair activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in the mechanical or electrical field.

• 2 or more years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience in the mechanical or electrical field.

• Experience applying Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines and safety standards.

• Project management experience related to maintenance, equipment installation, or improvement projects.

• Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track work orders, maintenance history, and inventory.

• Experience with robotic operation and maintenance in an automated environment.

• Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions on control systems.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with operations and maintenance teams.

• Detail-oriented approach to documentation, maintenance records, and safety compliance.

Work Environment

This position is based in a large, automated operations facility with material handling equipment, conveyor systems, and robotic and pneumatic technologies. You will work around fluctuating temperatures and move frequently between departments, floors, and areas of the property, walking approximately 6 to 12 miles per day. The role requires regular standing and walking for shifts of up to 12 hours, as well as frequent reaching above the head, kneeling, squatting, climbing steps or ladders, and bending at the waist or knees to install or move equipment. You will frequently lift equipment and parts up to 50 pounds. Personal protective equipment is required, including a mask, face shield, and composite-toed boots. The work involves using computers and standing desks for 1–2 hours per day to complete documentation and interact with maintenance systems.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenwood, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.50 - $32.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
