Overview The Program Manager 1 is responsible for the comprehensive coordination and administration of a growing clinical research program focused on obesity, aging, and health services research. The position oversees the planning, organization, implementation, and monitoring of multiple concurrent research projects, ensuring that studies progress efficiently and comply with institutional and regulatory requirements. Working closely with the Principal Investigator and multidisciplinary collaborators, the Program Manager coordinates day-to-day research operations, develops project timelines, tracks milestones and deliverables, facilitates communication among internal and external stakeholders, and prepares materials for institutional review board submissions. The position also supports dissemination of research through manuscript preparation and maintenance of the laboratory’s external communications, including its website. The Program Manager will further support the growth of the laboratory through identification of grant opportunities, assistance in preparing grant applications, and development of partnerships that strengthen the laboratory’s research portfolio. The Program Manager will also recruit, convene, and facilitate engagement of stakeholders with lived experience, including patients, caregivers, and community partners, to ensure that research priorities, study design, implementation, interpretation, and dissemination are informed by the perspectives of those most affected and remain relevant to patient and community needs. In addition, the Program Manager contributes to qualitative research activities by coordinating and conducting semi-structured interviews and focus groups, developing interview guides, managing qualitative data workflows, coding and analyzing qualitative data using established methodologies, and collaborating with investigators to synthesize findings for manuscripts, presentations, and reports. Through these activities, the Program Manager supports the successful execution, dissemination, and continued growth of the laboratory’s research program. Required Skills and Abilities Demonstrated experience independently managing complex programs and coordinating multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision. Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including experience facilitating meetings and engaging diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, community partners, and other stakeholders. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and effectively use research, project management, and qualitative data management software. Preferred Skills and Abilities Advanced degree in a related field such as public health or education, social sciences, or equivalent experience in community-engaged research, nonprofit leadership, or patient advocacy. Proven experience identifying funding opportunities and contributing to grant writing and proposal development. Proven experience conducting or supporting qualitative research activities, including semi-structured interviews, focus groups, or stakeholder engagement. Demonstrated ability to recruit, convene, and facilitate patients, caregivers, and other stakeholders with lived experience to inform research, program development, or policy initiatives. Proven experience managing budgets, contracts, or program finances. Principal Responsibilities Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget. Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content. Performs other duties as assigned.
