Responsibilities The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. He or she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice and coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care. Qualifications Education: Graduate of a nursing program. Work Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital setting is required for PRN positions. Licenses and Certifications: Current license in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License; BLS certification required. Additional Licenses and Certifications Bachelor’s degree preferred. Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable. Nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred. Addendum – Certified Specialty Requirements Cardiac Tele ACLS certification required within 180 days. Critical Care ACLS certification required within 180 days. Dialysis CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred. Emergency Department ACLS and PALS certification required within 180 days. Experienced Emergency Department nurses have 6 months to obtain the PALS certification. Infusion/Oncology Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification required prior to independent chemotherapy administration. Pediatrics Identify, report, and provide appropriate protective measures for high‑risk situations including but not limited to abuse or neglect, failure to thrive and potential for abduction. PALS certification required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital; PEARS or PALS certification required at Piedmont Athens Hospital. Must be obtained within 180 days. Surgical Services Pre‑Op/PACU/ENDO/CSU ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients required within 180 days. BLS required only within 180 days. Women’s Services Labor and Delivery – ACLS certification required; NRP by end of orientation; AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months. Mother/Baby – NRP by end of orientation.
