Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Eligibility & Stipend Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Externship experiences at Foothills Veterinary Hospital South generally last from two to eight weeks, depending on the student and hospital schedules. Responsibilities Externs will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to: gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe or assist in surgical procedures, and manage patients medically. They will also practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
