Summary - basic function of the role

Build your future in the skilled trades through a hands-on Machinist Apprentice opportunity centered on job shadowing, observation, and guided practice alongside experienced machinists. This entry-level role is designed for individuals who are ready to learn, solve problems, and develop the technical skills needed to produce precision components using both manual and advanced CNC equipment. As your knowledge and confidence grow, you will have opportunities to assist with machining tasks and take on more responsibility under appropriate guidance, building a strong foundation for a long-term career in a growing, high-demand trade. No prior machining experience is required-just a commitment to safety, quality, learning, and teamwork.

Shift: 6am-2pm

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on exposure to the machinist trade primarily through job shadowing, observation, and guided practice with experienced machinists.
• Work alongside experienced machinists to learn safe machining practices, production standards, and proven techniques.
• Learn to set up and operate manual mills, manual lathes, CNC mills, CNC lathes, and multi-axis machines.
• Read and interpret blueprints, process sheets, work instructions, and basic machining specifications.
• Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools to inspect completed parts.
• Load materials, select tooling, set machine offsets, and assist with machine setups under appropriate guidance.
• Monitor machines and make approved adjustments to maintain product quality and efficient operation.
• Identify defective parts, tool wear, and equipment concerns and report them promptly.
• Complete required production, quality, safety, and apprenticeship documentation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all safety and quality requirements.
• Perform increasingly complex machining assignments as skills, knowledge, and proficiency are developed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What the Apprentice Will Learn

• Fundamentals of precision machining, including machine safety, shop practices, and production workflow.
• Setup and operation of manual and CNC machining equipment, progressing from foundational tasks to more advanced work.
• Blueprint reading, machining math, tolerances, tooling selection, offsets, and basic CNC concepts.
• Precision measurement and inspection techniques used to produce parts that meet quality specifications.
• How to recognize and respond to common machining issues, including tool wear, part defects, and process variation.
• Continuous improvement, teamwork, problem-solving, and the professional habits needed to succeed in modern manufacturing.
• A clear progression toward becoming a skilled machinist with portable, in-demand capabilities and long-term career potential.

Education and Experience

Education Requirements : High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or current progress toward an approved equivalent. Coursework or demonstrated interest in manufacturing, machining, industrial technology, mathematics, or mechanical trades is preferred but not required.

Experience Requirements : Prior machining experience is not required. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn, dependable attendance, attention to detail, mechanical interest, and the ability to follow safety instructions. The apprentice will learn primarily by job shadowing experienced machinists, observing machining processes, asking questions, and completing assigned tasks under appropriate guidance. The apprentice must also complete applicable cell certification..

Physical Demands

Occasionally, Ascending, or descending ladders, stairs, moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods, moving about to accomplish tasks, or moving from one worksite to another, adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions, communicating with others to exchange information. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers, assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned,


Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing, medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds, Heavy work that includes moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.

Constantly, repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned, Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment

Employees will work in a temperature-controlled setting. Employee will also be out in a manufacturing environment. Employee may work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to electrical shock and vibration. Employee will be exposed to various levels of noise based on location.
