Charge Nurse- Team Lead - Nights

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Charge Nurse is to assist the Nursing Supervisor in the responsibility for the total patient care within the nursing unit, and the management of the unit. The role requires overseeing documentation, staff coordination, and patient safety in a fast‑paced environment. Duties Carry out administrative and patient care duties as part of shift responsibilities. Supervise and assume responsibility for the actions and care delivered by the STNA’s. Abide by department policies and procedures and interpret them to personnel, medical staff, patients and the public. Be willing to work on the unit designated by the D.O.N., A.D.O.N, or Supervisor. Check the 24‑hour report sheet for changes and updates in patient care needs for the day. Make walking rounds and supervise the N.A. care delivered. Administer medication (including IV) and treatment per the Physician orders specific to the patient. Attempt to meet the needs of patients in a spiritual or psychological manner with the resources available to the nurse. Assist and direct in the admission and discharge process of patients. Administrative Duties Give and receive report at the beginning and change of shift to on‑coming staff. Takes and transcribes physician orders. Answer telephone inquiries. Evaluate patient care needs, condition, develop and/or add to existing plan of care for the individual patient. Manage admission process for patients when the documentation nurse is not available—including verifying Physician orders, transcribing pre‑admission information, arranging diagnostic and therapeutic needs, ordering medication/treatment, communicating to dietary staff, and completing required paperwork. Handle transfer and discharge of patients, arrangements for transportation, communication with family, and necessary paperwork. Maintain appropriate documentation in the patient electronic medical record. General Unit Duties Direct and assist with department cleaning and care of equipment/appliances. Communicate with teamwork with all departments. Ensure overall safety and cleanliness of the unit. Greet and direct visitors on the unit. Personnel Requirements Valid nursing license in the state where the facility is located. Responsible for meeting the state‑required continuing education hours per licensure period. Good physical and mental health. Have a sincere desire to work with the elderly. Must be willing to perform non‑professional duties. Must be level‑headed and able to give or receive direction in an emergency situation. Must be able to place patient needs above own desires or judgment. Must always serve as a patient advocate. Rates LPN: $29 to $34 depending on experience and licensure. RN: $35 to $42 depending on experience and licensure. Additional shift differentials for evening and weekend shifts are offered.
