Certified Clinical Medical Assistant

Job Purpose The CMA/RMA is a member of the interdisciplinary medical team of the Heartland Community Health Center (HCHC), providing support to the medical providers with direct patient care, maintaining exam rooms and equipment, and performing assigned clerical duties. This position is responsible for patient intake, vital signs, phlebotomy, laboratory support, and serves as a liaison between the front desk staff, the providers, and the nurses in the provision of care. Duties and Responsibilities Works in harmony with others, exhibits a positive attitude and commitment to the health center mission. Actions show commitment to team effort, work well with others, support group objectives, and participate in staff meetings and team problem‑solving. Consistent patient‑centered, caring disposition is a must. Performs daily exam room inspection, ensuring supplies are adequately stocked for patient care. Interviews patients to obtain medical information including current medications and allergies; obtains vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, pulse and blood pressure readings; records information into EHR. Performs procedures as directed by medical provider including EKG, peak flows, ear lavage, minor procedures, dressing changes, vision and hearing screenings. Administers vaccines and injections to patients. Assists with laboratory procedures including phlebotomy, dipsticks, urinalysis, hematocrit, glucose screening. Assists medical providers with procedures, exams and treatment of patients. Maintains exam rooms, keeping equipment clean, sterilized and rotated. Maintains adequate supplies of linens, medical equipment, and paper supplies needed for daily clinical operations. Provides coverage in other departments as indicated. Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to professional certification, patient confidentiality pursuant to HIPAA, and patient treatment & safety guidelines. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Qualifications High School graduate or equivalent. Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant course training. Certificate of graduation and proof of certification. On‑the‑job training; previous experience in a healthcare environment strongly preferred. Ability to learn/navigate computer systems such as an electronic health record system and Microsoft Office; generally technology‑savvy. Strong verbal communication skills and ability to communicate ideas successfully. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships. Details Hours Monday – Friday from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm as needed (approx. 40 hrs per week). Occasional Saturday hours may be required.
