Behavior Intervention Specialist

The Behavior Intervention Specialist supports student success by conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), developing and implementing positive behavior intervention strategies, and collaborating with staff to create safe, supportive learning environments. This role works closely with students, educators, families, and related service providers to address behavioral needs, improve student outcomes, and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to identify factors impacting student behavior and learning.
• Develop, implement, and monitor Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to promote student progress and success.
• Reinforce positive behaviors while utilizing de-escalation techniques and redirecting inappropriate behaviors.
• May be required to implement approved restrictive procedures in accordance with district policies and applicable regulations.
• Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) consistent with district practices and state and federal requirements.
• Provide training, coaching, and consultation to staff regarding behavioral strategies, intervention plans, and recommendations.
• Utilize behavioral and academic data to inform programming decisions, interventions, and planning for student success.
• Help maintain a safe environment for all students, staff, and visitors.
• Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and sound judgment when responding to changing student needs and crisis situations.
• Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support student growth.
• Ensure compliance with School Board policies, administrative procedures, and guidelines outlined in staff and student handbooks.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records related to behavioral services and interventions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, Behavior Analysis, or a related field.
• Experience working with students exhibiting behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges.
• Knowledge of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), behavior intervention planning, and positive behavior support strategies.
• Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during crisis situations.
• Licensure Requirement: Candidates who are applying as a Special Education Teacher must possess a Tier 3 or Tier 4 teaching license.

Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, Behavior Analysis, or a related field.

Minimum Experience Required: 2 years
