Research Coordinator I - Neurosurgery

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant in the Department of Neurosurgery and Center of Neuroimmunology and Glial Biology at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School at Houston. Our laboratory combines interdisciplinary approaches including molecular biology, animal models, and bioinformatics to address fundamental questions in neural injuries and neurodegeneration such as Alzheimer’s. We provide training opportunities in cutting‑edge technologies such as single‑cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. Our laboratory is located in the new facility of the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine in the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical complexes in the world. Supports research project logistics, record maintenance, report preparation, and meeting research milestones. Position Key Accountabilities Assist with human subjects research activities—participant recruitment, informed consent, data collection through surveys, interviews, and observations—under supervision. Organize, clean, and maintain databases for accurate data entry and preparation for analysis. Maintain confidential records, ensure data accuracy, compliance, and integrity; support the Data Management Sharing plan. Prepare annual progress reports and applications for committees; ensure staff training compliance. Assist with preparation of progress and annual reports, grant proposals, and submission of grants with Office of Sponsored Projects. Assist with regulatory submissions (IRB, FDA, etc.). Help with quantitative and qualitative data analysis, creation of figures, tables, graphs, and preparation of manuscripts and conference presentations. Conduct literature reviews to assist manuscript preparation. Assist with budget preparation, re‑budgeting, and invoicing in departmental meetings. Assist in preparing for and responding to site monitoring visits, audits, and inspections. Maintain study materials such as test kits, investigational drugs, and devices. Perform other duties as assigned. Certification / Skills None required. Minimum Education Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required. May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience. Minimum Experience None. Physical Requirements Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. Security Sensitive This position is security‑sensitive pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094, Texas Business and Commerce Code 117.001(2), and Texas Government Code 791.4. Personnel must be routinely reviewed to ensure compliance with criminal history and other security requirements.
