Job Description
About the Company
RNGD is a rapidly scaling organization emerging as a nationally recognized leader in construction through our unique Renegade mindset focused on innovation, creativity, and culture. The team is made up of a highly engaged group of seasoned professionals and emerging leaders. We are creators who believe that what we build drives the growth of our cities and that to fulfill our mission, we must constantly challenge the old way of doing things. Headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, we thrive on building communities, building teams, building leaders, and growing the business throughout the Southeast region with additional offices in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Regional Safety Leader that will serve as a key member of RNGD’s Risk Management and Safety Team and provide strategic safety leadership across multiple regions and business sectors. Based at RNGD Headquarters, this is a “road warrior” role requiring frequent travel to support mission-critical projects, including data centers, industrial facilities, power-generation facilities, and other complex construction operations. Although extensive travel is expected, this position is not considered a permanently assigned out-of-town role.
The Regional Safety Leader serves as the primary safety business partner to Mission Critical, Industrial, and Power Sector leadership while supporting additional projects and business units as needed. This role provides guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from pursuit and preconstruction activities through project startup, execution, closeout, and lessons learned.
This role is designed for a safety professional with strong business acumen who understands that safety is more than compliance. The Regional Safety Leader partners with Operations, project teams, clients, and executive leadership to drive project success through effective risk management, operational safety excellence, and proactive relationship management.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Safety Leadership and Culture
- Lead and support RNGD’s safety culture through the company’s S.A.F.E. philosophy: Safety Always For Everyone.
- Partner with Sector Leaders, Operations Leaders, and executive leadership to drive project success through effective safety and risk management.
- Support the development and execution of company safety initiatives, standards, and continuous-improvement efforts.
- Drive accountability and ownership for safety at all levels of project operations.
- Communicate safety priorities, expectations, risks, and performance concerns clearly across leadership and project teams.
- Project Lifecycle Safety and Operational Risk
- Provide safety leadership and oversight for mission-critical, industrial, power, and other complex construction projects throughout project execution and closeout.
- Support project startup activities, including site-specific safety plans, risk assessments, emergency-response planning, and client requirements.
- Conduct project reviews, audits, field observations, and executive safety assessments.
- Partner with project teams to identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational risks.
- Support incident investigations, corrective-action development, and implementation of lessons learned.
- Business Development and Preconstruction Support
- Participate in project pursuits, proposals, presentations, and client interviews.
- Support estimating and preconstruction teams with safety planning, staffing projections, and risk evaluations.
- Assist with reviewing contract requirements, insurance specifications, owner expectations, and compliance obligations in coordination with the appropriate internal partners.
- Identify project-specific safety and operational risks during pursuit and preconstruction activities.
- Develop project-specific safety approaches and differentiators that position RNGD as an industry leader.
- Safety Team Leadership and Development
- Directly supervise and mentor Safety Managers, Site Safety Professionals, and other assigned personnel.
- Establish clear expectations, priorities, responsibilities, and performance standards for assigned team members.
- Develop future safety leaders through coaching, accountability, and professional-development opportunities.
- Conduct performance planning, goal-setting, feedback, and career-development discussions.
- Promote consistency and excellence across regional safety operations.
- Client and Industry Relations
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients, owners, trade partners, Operations leaders, and regulatory agencies.
- Represent RNGD during client meetings, executive reviews, audits, and industry events.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to project and business leadership regarding safety and risk-related matters.
- Communicate project performance, significant risks, and recommended actions clearly and professionally.
- Risk Management, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
- Analyze project trends, leading indicators, incidents, audit findings, and performance metrics.
- Develop actionable recommendations for risk reduction and operational improvement.
- Support claims-management activities involving workers’ compensation, general liability, builder’s risk, and other operational exposures in coordination with Risk Management and other appropriate partners.
- Provide executive-level reporting regarding project performance, trends, significant incidents, and emerging risks.
- Use performance data, investigation findings, and lessons learned to recommend improvements to safety standards, planning, training, and field execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of construction safety leadership experience.
- Experience supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, mission-critical, power, manufacturing, or heavy civil construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing safety personnel and field teams.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, risk-management principles, and construction operations.
- Experience supporting project pursuits, preconstruction planning, estimating activities, or client presentations.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with clients, Operations leaders, project teams, and executive leadership.
- Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to travel extensively based on project and business needs (required).
