The Member of Technical Staff - Atlas role focuses on building autonomous AI agents and zero-human loops to pioneer an AI-native company operating model.

Seniority

• 4 - 8 years of experience building products 0 - > 1 as a full- stack engineer

Work experience

• Previous experience as founder , founding engineer , or software engineer at a fast- paced startup (Seed - Series D) - should have high ownership over projects

Hard skills

• Expertise in one full-stack language with a product mindset
• Work with different Agent SDKs and LLM tools (more than basic chatbots)

Miscellaneous

• Strong tenures 2+ years at each company and strong career progression
• 4 - 8 years of experience building products 0 - > 1 as a full- stack engineer

Role Overview & Mission

• Core Goal : Answer what knowledge work looks like under AGI by inventing new infrastructure, operating models, and human-agent workflows.
• Team Function : Atlas is an internal team at Basis where engineers embed directly within different company teams to build intelligence and offload end-to-end work into AI.
• Location : In-person in Flatiron, New York City (5 days a week).

Key Responsibilities

• Build Autonomous Agents : Create systems that handle tasks end-to-end, such as agent teammates that push code to production, self-repairing services, and automated knowledge systems.
• Context & Workflow Engineering : Embed with internal teams, learn their workflows deeply, and design better agent training and system architecture.
• Ownership : Operate under Basis's Responsible Party (RP) system where individual engineers take full accountability for whether their projects ship and function.

Candidate Requirements

• First Principles Thinking : Ability to decompose novel problems from fundamentals rather than relying on an established playbook.
• Technical Proficiency : Strong coding and programming skills suited for agent applications, AI integration, and machine learning technologies.
• Agency & Domain Depth : High initiative to gather context, understand data systems, and make high-impact product decisions.
