Position Summary

The Staff Accountant performs a wide range of accounting and financial functions to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial activities and records. This position supports all various areas of accounting in accordance with organizational policies, internal controls and applicable accounting standards. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for Accounts Receivable and the reconciliation of various related ledgers and reports. The role also supports day-to-day financial operations, monthly and year-end close processes, audit preparation and regulatory compliance and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Gifts, Program Services and Other Accounts Receivable

• Record all revenues including gifts, grants, program services and events into the accounting and CRM databases ensuring accurate and appropriate coding.
• Support the tracking and reconciliation of donor and grant restrictions.
• Manage daily revenue receipts, including desktop deposits and monitoring electronic payments.
• Monitor, reconcile and maintain records for pledges, notes and other receivables.
• Partner with Development team to support timely gift acknowledgement and receipts.
• Partner with Impact team to support nonprofit program service invoices and reconciliations.

General Accounting and Collaboration

• Monitor daily cash balances and activity.
• Ensure timely deposits of checks using desktop deposit services.
• Reconcile investment accounts and investigate variance as needed.
• Process investment earning distributions to fund-holder accounts.
• Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with established accounting policies and internal controls.
• Assist in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the foundation’s financial records.
• Maintain complete and organized accounting documentation and supporting records.
• Assist with the compilation of financial data and supporting schedules for Form 990
• Assist with the annual audit by preparing requested schedules, reports and supporting documentation.
• Provide fund-specific financial reporting and information requested by internal staff.
• Assist the Accounting Manager and Vice President, Finance and Operations with special projects and other accounting related responsibilities as needed

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least three years of general accounting experience preferred.

**Combination of education including accounting coursework, and three to five years of

relevant experience will also be considered.

• Knowledge of accounting standards, regulations and financial reporting
• Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Experience in the nonprofit sector or with foundations preferred.
• Familiarity with integrated accounting and financial databases
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyst information and resolve issues effectively.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Outstanding professional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive financial and donor information
• Demonstrated professionalism, accountability and strong work ethic
• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced proficiency in Excel preferred
• Experience with AkoyaGO and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central a plus

• Working conditions are generally in an office environment. Occasional physical exertion, such as lifting, standing, bending, or reaching, is required.
• Employee will operate standard office equipment and regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds.
• A hybrid work environment exists, allowing for some remote work as relevant to position.
• Requires a minimum of three in-office days per week, with Mondays required onsite.
• May occasionally travel throughout Idaho and outside the state.
