Position Overview

We are currently looking for an experienced operations professional to join our Trading Operations team at Magnetar. This position will report to the Head of Trading Operations and serve as a senior member of the team, with primary responsibility for security data accuracy and global corporate actions across equity and fixed income.

The individual will also be expected to build a broad understanding of the Operations function through cross-training, supporting areas such as reconciliations, repo, settlements and private equity and debt as business needs evolve. The position provides high visibility and exposure to a variety of hedge fund strategies through interaction with Portfolio Managers, trading desks and other teams across the firm.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the review, creation and processing of global corporate actions across equity and fixed income from point of announcement through completion, including events held in swap, prime broker and custody accounts.
• Take ownership of corporate action deadlines and event-specific considerations, ensuring all events are actioned accurately and on time.
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of security data across asset classes, including security setup and ongoing maintenance.
• Provide coverage for a variety of trading operations functions, including settlements, reconciliations and repo processing.
• Partner with Portfolio Managers, trading desks and counterparties to support security lifecycle events and transactions and to resolve breaks and exceptions in a timely manner.
• Cross-train across the Operations function, including reconciliations, repo, settlements and private equity and debt, to provide insight, depth and coverage across the team.
• Lead initiatives to improve processes, controls and scalability across Trading Operations in line with industry best practices.
• Identify and implement opportunities to leverage technology, data and AI.
• Manage key relationships with prime brokers, custodians, swap counterparties and other external service providers.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in a business-related discipline with strong academic performance record.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in corporate actions, asset servicing and/or fixed income settlements, ideally within asset management or a similar operations function at a financial institution.
• Experience working with security data and/or reconciliations and trade settlements in addition to corporate actions strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of central clearing house settlement methods preferred.
• High level of intelligence, internal drive, intellectual curiosity and analytical ability, with strong quantitative skills and a willingness to immerse oneself in trade and security data.
• Optimistic attitude with willingness to contribute however and wherever possible or required. Seeks out an environment with the potential to rapidly assume additional challenges and responsibilities.
• Motivated self-starter, highly organized and committed to accuracy and quality of work product.
• Effective communicator and ability to develop relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong teamwork ethic and demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands and drive work to completion.

The annual base salary range for this position is $120,000 to $160,000 USD. The actual base salary will depend upon the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, skills, business needs and market. This role may be eligible for a discretionary bonus and if awarded is based on a variety of factors including firm and individual performance.
