Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Surgical Specialty Specialty: Surgical Floor Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care surgical nursing experience required. License: Current RN License. Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association. Must-Have: - Stepdown/PCU experience required. - Must have acute care surgical floor experience. - Experience caring for patients with drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, or DHT is essential. - Ability to maintain patient care ratios of 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for step down area. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observing physiological manifestations and intervening when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed and initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with families and patients in sharing care plans during hospital stay and at discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Candidates must have experience taking care of patients pre or post-surgical services, with a strong emphasis on surgical experience. Preferred experience includes ENT and/or transplant care. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services, applying nursing techniques is essential. Maintaining good working relationships with other employees is necessary. Effective verbal and written communication skills are needed. Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is important. Basic computer skills are required.
