We are constantly winning new contracts and are looking for new inspectors to staff these projects.We have immediate openings in the Richmond area for qualified transportation Construction Inspectors. The Inspector is responsible for managing and performing daily construction management and inspection services for various types of VDOT and locality transportation projects. Must have significant experience in roadway/bridge construction, have VDOT certifications, be proficient at reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and shop drawings as well as overseeing construction document controls and enforcing contract compliance.Responsibilities:Duties and responsibilities may include:Construction managementPerforming field inspection of Contractor's operations to see that they comply with contract documentsPreparing daily and weekly reports on work accomplished by ContractorPerforming materials testing and maintaining testing logsReviewing periodic pay estimates for accuracy with ContractorPreparing sketches and assembling data for Engineer's use in making changes to the projectKeeping diaries and making reports on work accomplished and/or noted deficienciesPerforming sophisticated, complicated mathematical calculationsReviewing Contractor schedules including initial CPM and monthly updatesCommunicating effectively with the Engineer, Owner and Owner's operational and field staff on a regular basis, keeping them apprised of field conditions and maintaining active communications and excellent rapport with the Owner and the entire project team throughout the construction processRequirements:Minimum of three (3) years of specific field construction inspection experience in the specified areas listed below.Inspection Skills: Applicants must have demonstrated inspection and management experience with roadway and bridge construction, utility construction, and related pavement rehabilitation projects requiring monitoring a contractor's work for conformance to the design plans, specifications and general permit requirementsExperience in coordinating inspection duties with multiple simultaneously operating crewsExperience tracking daily quantities, completing daily inspection reports, performing monthly estimates and as-built drawings.Additional Training or Certifications - VDOT materials certifications including Asphalt, Concrete, Soils and Aggregate and Pavement Marking. ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification desired. Erosion & Sediment control certification (i.e., DCR Inspector's Certification) and Intermediate Work Zone Safety/ATSSA TCSApplicant must have a valid driver's license and clean driving recordHigh School Diploma or State Equivalency Certificate. Bachelor's Degree or other advanced certificate desirableMust have good communication skillsMust be able to read/interpret plans and specificationsWriting and drawing skills are necessary to complete inspection reports and documentationBasic computer skills (Word & Excel) are desirablePhysical Requirements (Essential Functions):This position requires the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in the field as part of the essential job functions. Duties may include:Walking and navigating across rough or uneven terrain such as mud, rocks, grass, dirt, steep hillsides, heavily wooded areas, and other unpaved surfacesMoving around active project sites, which may involve climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or polesPerforming physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbingRemaining in a stationary position—either standing or sitting—for extended periods of timeRepetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingersLifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds and/or carting objects up to 50 lbs distances up to100 yards.Driving to and from project sites which may involve distances of up to or exceeding 120 miles round trip.Must be able to function safely in an environment with potential risks, including, but not limited to those described in this document.Work from heights exceeding 6 feetMust be able to wear a properly fitted safety harness and be knowledgeable of the correct use and of regular inspection of the harness and componentsMust be willing to work nights and overtime, when required by the project assignmentThe work environment may include exposure to a range of environmental conditions, including high and low temperatures, precipitation, and other outdoor elements.
