Position Summary San Diego State University is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Evening Facilities Project Supervisor to oversee evening maintenance operations and provide work direction to skilled trades staff. This role coordinates multi-trade maintenance, project activities, and emergency response to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable campus operations. Key Responsibilities Daily Work Assignment & Oversight Supervise and assign work to evening shift staff, including Plumbers, Electricians, Building Service Engineers, and Maintenance Mechanics. Monitor work progress, quality, safety, and compliance while maintaining accurate labor, material, and work records. Provide on-the-job training, reinforce safe work practices, and provide input on employee performance. Multi-Trade Maintenance, Repair & Project Support Perform and coordinate skilled maintenance, repair, construction, renovation, and operational support across multiple building systems. Provide journey-level trade expertise while ensuring work meets applicable codes, standards, and campus requirements. Coordinate with other trades and supervisors to support projects and campus operations. Work Planning & Coordination Interpret plans and drawings, coordinate schedules, prepare estimates, and determine labor and material needs. Manage material orders and shop inventory and coordinate work sequencing for projects and maintenance activities. Emergency Response & General Support Coordinate evening emergency maintenance response, assess hazards, and ensure appropriate corrective actions and follow-up. Maintain tools, equipment, and safe work areas while supporting other Facilities Services teams, projects, and events as needed. Why Join Us? Position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego. Department Summary The Division of Business and Financial Affairs is responsible for ensuring a safe, productive campus environment while providing the highest quality service in support of academic excellence through thoughtful stewardship of financial, technological, infrastructure and human resources at San Diego State University. SDSU Facilities Services is a customer-service-based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel, and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university. Facilities Services employs approximately 250 employees and supports approximately eight million square feet of buildings (including residence halls and parking structures) and 280 acres of improved and unimproved land. Education and Experience These abilities normally would be acquired through two years of experience working as a journey level crafts worker in one or more building trades including one year in a lead/supervisory capacity. Must have demonstrated achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of an applicable apprenticeship program. Key Qualifications Experience identifying, documenting, and prioritizing maintenance or operational deficiencies in building systems. Experience using a computerized maintenance management system to track work, document conditions, and support maintenance planning. Knowledge of asbestos, lead, mold, or other regulated materials and associated work practices. Demonstrated experience coordinating or supervising work involving HVAC systems, building automation systems, or controls-related maintenance activities. Five years of verifiable employment experience performing work in one or more of the following trades: Masonry, Carpentry, Roofing, Locksmith, Mechanical, HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing, or closely related field; technical school trades certification may substitute for one year of work experience preferred. Experience working in a large, complex, multi-building environment such as a higher education campus, healthcare system, government facility, or similar institutional setting preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field such as construction management, construction science, or engineering technology, or equivalent supervisory experience in facilities maintenance preferred. Licenses/Certifications Required Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire. Compensation : Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 8 ($8,611 per month) for highly qualified candidates . Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the Teamsters Collective Bargaining Agreement. CSU Classification Salary Range: $7,497 - $10,921 per month (Step 1 – Step 20).
