We are seeking compassionate, dependable and highly experienced caregivers to provide attentive, hands-on support for a bedbound client in Downtown Nashville. This meaningful opportunity is ideal for caregivers who understand the importance of patience, safety, consistency, dignity and emotional support when caring for someone with a higher level of need. The selected caregivers must be confident, observant, professional and experienced with complete personal care, repositioning, incontinence care, skin observation, blood sugar support and daily comfort care.Available Shifts Both day and night shifts are available. Exact shift times, lengths and available days will be discussed based on the client’s current needs. Applicants must clearly state their complete availability, including: Weekday availability Weekend availability Day-shift availability Night-shift availability Overnight availability Full-time or part-time preference Once a caregiver accepts an assignment, punctual attendance and completion of the entire scheduled shift are required.Required Bedbound-Care Skills The selected caregivers must be comfortable and experienced with the following responsibilities:Communication Caregivers must communicate clearly, respectfully and professionally with the client, authorized family members, the Helping Hearts office and other approved members of the care team. Any concern or change in the client’s condition must be reported immediately. Caregivers must not assume that another person has already notified the office.Observation and Condition Reporting Caregivers must be able to recognize and report changes in the client’s physical, emotional or behavioral condition, including: Pain or discomfort Redness or skin irritation Swelling or bruising Open areas or skin breakdown Changes in alertness Changes in appetite or fluid intake Blood sugar-related concerns Difficulty breathing Confusion or unusual behavior Changes in toileting patterns Any significant change from the client’s normal condition Caregivers provide non-medical personal support and must report concerns rather than diagnose or independently treat them.Personal Care Caregivers must have experience providing respectful, hands-on assistance with: Bed baths Personal hygiene Dressing and undressing Grooming and hair care Oral care Toileting and incontinence care Changing protective undergarments Perineal care Changing soiled clothing or bedding Maintaining the client’s dignity, privacy and comfort Caregivers must explain personal-care tasks before beginning and treat the client with patience and respect throughout the process.Bed Mobility and Repositioning Caregivers must have experience safely repositioning a bedbound client using proper body mechanics and approved techniques. Responsibilities may include: Repositioning the client according to the care plan Assisting the client from side to side in bed Using pillows or approved positioning supports Maintaining safe and comfortable body alignment Keeping bedding clean, dry and free from wrinkles Changing linens while the client remains in bed Monitoring for discomfort during movement Requesting assistance when repositioning cannot be completed safely Caregivers must never pull, drag or reposition the client using unsafe techniques.Skin Integrity and Pressure-Sore Prevention Caregivers must understand the importance of routine repositioning, hygiene and skin observation for a bedbound client. Responsibilities may include: Observing the skin during personal care Monitoring common pressure areas Keeping the client’s skin clean and dry Changing wet or soiled protective undergarments promptly Keeping bedding dry and free from wrinkles Following the client’s repositioning schedule Reporting redness, irritation, swelling, bruising or skin breakdown immediately Accurately documenting all observed concerns Caregivers must not apply medicated creams, ointments, dressings or treatments unless the action is specifically permitted within the approved care plan and caregiver scope.Blood Sugar Support Applicants must have experience or comfort supporting a client with blood sugar-related needs within the approved non-medical care plan. Responsibilities may include: Providing scheduled reminders Assisting with approved blood glucose monitoring Documenting readings when required Observing for changes in the client’s condition Supporting meals and hydration according to the care plan Reporting unusual readings or symptoms immediately Following all emergency and office-notification procedures Caregivers must remain within their authorized role and must not provide medical treatment or clinical interpretation.Nutrition and Hydration Caregivers may be responsible for: Preparing meals according to the client’s preferences and dietary instructions Assisting with feeding when required Encouraging regular fluid intake Monitoring and documenting food and fluid intake Following safe food-handling practices Cleaning the meal preparation area Reporting coughing, choking, difficulty swallowing, refusal to eat or drink, vomiting or other concerns immediatelyInfection Control Caregivers must follow appropriate infection-control and hygiene practices, including: Proper handwashing Wearing required personal protective equipment Changing gloves between care tasks Properly disposing of used care supplies Keeping the client’s immediate environment clean Cleaning frequently touched surfaces Following all client-specific infection-control instructions Reporting possible signs of infection immediatelyPain and Comfort Awareness Caregivers must remain attentive to verbal and nonverbal signs of pain or discomfort. Within the approved care plan, caregivers may: Reposition the client Adjust pillows or approved supports Maintain a calm and comfortable environment Provide reassurance Report pain or discomfort to the office Follow established emergency procedures when necessaryEmotional Support and Companionship Caregivers must provide more than physical assistance. The selected caregivers should be prepared to offer: Meaningful conversation Reassurance and encouragement Calm companionship Respectful interaction Patience during difficult moments Appropriate activities based on the client’s interests and abilities Support that helps reduce loneliness and isolationDocumentation Caregivers must accurately document: Personal care provided Repositioning completed Toileting and incontinence care Meals and hydration Blood sugar-related support Skin observations Medication reminders Changes in condition Safety concerns Incidents and office notifications All completed and incomplete care-plan responsibilities Documentation must be completed accurately and during the assigned shift.Day-Shift Responsibilities Day-shift responsibilities may include: Assisting with the client’s morning routine Providing a bed bath and personal hygiene Assisting with dressing and grooming Providing toileting and incontinence care Repositioning the client according to the care plan Preparing meals and assisting with feeding Encouraging hydration Supporting approved blood sugar monitoring Changing linens and completing laundry Completing light housekeeping Providing companionship Monitoring the client’s comfort and condition Completing documentation in real timeNight-Shift Responsibilities Night-shift caregivers must remain fully awake, alert and attentive throughout the entire shift. Responsibilities may include: Completing scheduled safety and comfort checks Repositioning the client according to the care plan Providing toileting and incontinence care Changing protective undergarments or soiled linens Monitoring the client’s breathing, comfort and condition Providing medication reminders when scheduled and authorized Responding immediately when the client needs assistance Completing approved nighttime housekeeping responsibilities Preparing the client’s environment for the morning Documenting all care and observations in real time Sleeping, napping, dozing or lying down to rest while responsible for the client is strictly prohibited, even when the client is sleeping.Light Housekeeping Caregivers may be responsible for maintaining a clean, organized and safe client environment by completing: Laundry and linen changes Tidying the client’s immediate living space Washing dishes Cleaning meal-preparation areas Vacuuming or sweeping Removing trash Cleaning frequently touched surfaces Organizing care supplies Maintaining clear walking and emergency-access areasPhysical Requirements Caring for a bedbound client can be physically demanding. Applicants must be able to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the assignment, with or without a reasonable accommodation. Physical responsibilities may include: Standing, walking or sitting for extended periods Frequently bending, reaching, turning and twisting Kneeling or squatting when necessary Assisting with bed mobility and repositioning Supporting the client safely during personal care Changing linens while the client remains in bed Using approved transfer or positioning equipment Handling laundry, household supplies and care equipment Responding promptly during emergencies or changes in condition Remaining awake and attentive throughout night shifts Applicants must disclose any limitation that could prevent them from safely providing the required care before accepting the assignment.Experience and Qualifications Applicants must have: A minimum of five years of professional caregiving experience Direct experience supporting bedbound clients Experience providing complete personal care Experience with toileting and incontinence care Experience with bed baths and hygiene care Knowledge of safe repositioning techniques Knowledge of proper body mechanics Experience monitoring for pressure sores and skin breakdown Experience or comfort with blood sugar support Familiarity with medication reminders The ability to follow written care plans Strong observation and documentation skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills A compassionate, patient and professional approach Reliable day or night availability The ability to remain attentive throughout the complete shift Experience using a gait belt, Hoyer lift or other approved transfer equipment is strongly preferred. Caregivers may only use equipment after completing required training and receiving authorization.Transportation Requirements Applicants must have: A valid driver’s license Current automobile insurance Reliable personal transportation An acceptable driving record The ability to travel consistently to Downtown Nashville Caregivers must immediately report any change affecting their driver’s license, automobile insurance, vehicle availability or ability to report to the client safely.Background and Screening Requirements Applicants must: Be at least 18 years old. Complete a comprehensive background check covering up to 15 years, where legally permitted. Complete required abuse, neglect and sex-offender registry checks. Complete a drug screening when applicable. Provide favorable professional references. Provide complete and accurate application information. Report any criminal charge or legal change that may affect their ability to provide safe care. All employment offers are contingent upon satisfactory completion of the required screenings, reference checks, employment verifications and onboarding requirements.Required Employment Documents Applicants must possess and present physical copies of all required employment documents during the document-verification process. Required documentation includes: A valid government-issued photo identification A valid driver’s license Current automobile-insurance documentation Proof of high school completion, GED or equivalent A Social Security card A birth certificate Acceptable proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States Any applicable professional licenses or certifications Any additional state, client or assignment-specific documentation Applicants must also provide: A complete five-year employment history Five professional references Current contact information for all references No friends or family members as professional references Required payroll and tax information For privacy and identity protection, applicants should not text or email photographs of sensitive identity documents. For federal Form I-9 verification, applicants may present any acceptable document or combination of documents permitted under federal law. Helping Hearts will not require a particular Form I-9 document when another legally acceptable option is provided.Professional Appearance and Uniform Caregivers must arrive clean, prepared and professionally dressed. The required uniform includes: Solid navy-blue scrubs Closed-toe and closed-heel shoes Clean and professional appearance Hair secured when necessary for safety No strong fragrances Appropriate personal hygiene Required personal protective equipment when applicableCompensation The compensation range for this position is $17.00 to $27.00 per hour.
