Now Hiring: TMA / Medication Administration Assistant – All Shifts- CNA CERTIFICATE REQUIRED

WAGE| $23.50-$26.00 DOE

NATURE OF POSITION:

The primary purpose of your job position is to assist in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures and practices of this facility, and the requirements of the state of Minnesota.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be a Registered Nursing Assistant at this facility (NAR)
2. Must complete and pass the Medication administration for Unlicensed Personnel course as offered at an approved training site.
3. Must know, understand, and use Standard Precautions

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Receive report from the charge nurse after starting your med pass or your shift.
2. May administer oral medications, oral supplements, nasal sprays, inhalers, & scheduled nebulizer treatments, eye drops, and ear drops, suppositories for bowel function or topical medications that are regularly scheduled. In the case of PRN medications, the TMA must check with the licensed charge nurse after administration. All PRN medications must be authorized by the licensed charge nurse prior to administration.
3. Deliver resident care as needed.
4. Maintain good housekeeping in the med room and cupboards & dining room.
5. Clean med trays, counters, med boxes as needed
6. Wipe bottles after use
7. Watch for smeared or illegible labels and have them relabeled by pharmacist
8. Assist in dining room at mealtime.
9. Maintain all required documentation in an accurate and timely manner
10. Observe and report any resident concern to the charge nurse

8.. Attend required in services and staff meetings (i.e. nursing assistant meetings & nurses’ meetings)

1. May crush medication and administer in applesauce or designated food.
2. Check in meds from the pharmacy this includes bi-weekly change over of meds on Thursdays.
3. Must have knowledge of Medication / Treatment Incident reporting
4. Monitor and direct the nursing assistants on your assigned unit
5. Responsible to assist nursing assistants with cares as the Charge nurse directs
6. May count narcotics with another licensed staff or TMA at end of shift per policy.
7. May obtain blood glucose results using the facility glucometer.

 

 

 

TMA may not do the following:

1. Injections, meds via NG or G tube, vaginal/urethral routes.
2. PRN O2 due to necessary data gathering prior to administration
3. May not do treatments fresh surgical wounds.
4. May not do sterile treatment or sterile procedures
5. May not score tablets or calculate doses.
6. May not take verbal or writer orders from the physician or transcribe orders.
7. Neuro checks
8. Medicare charting
9. May not administer enemas
10. May not access the Emergency Drug Kit
11. May not do incident reports or bruise, skin tear, open area, wanderquard/elopement reports
12. May not give a PRN Narcotic unless licensed nurse has assessed and gave the okay.

 

As a result of the fluidity of nursing home care, you may be required to perform other duties when assigned, e.g., monitoring CNA duties and responsibilities.
