On-site Structural Biologist: Cryo-EM & X-ray Expert

We have multiple openings for Structural Biologists to work on-site at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. KEY TASKS
- 1) Process and analyze structural datasets, including but not limited to cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-ray crystallography data
- 2) Provide scientific, technical, and operational support for the cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) facility including Titan Krios and other electron microscopes.
- 3) Support structural biology research through high-quality cryo-EM data acquisition and analysis
- 4) Perform high-throughput cryo-EM data collection and screening of samples
- 5) Optimize data acquisition strategies for resolution, throughput, and efficiency.
- 6) Conduct specimen preparation, vitrification, and grid screening for cryo-EM studies.
- 7) Perform computational processing of cryo-EM and negative-stain datasets.
- 8) Support image analysis, structural models, 3D reconstruction, and data interpretation.
- 9) Apply antigen design and protein engineering tools to support scientific research projects
- 10) Perform in vitro biochemical and biophysical assays to evaluate proteins and constructs
- 11) Develop, implement, and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for structural prediction, protein design, and data visualization
- 12) Train users in cryo-EM specimen preparation, microscope operation, and data collection
- 13) Provide consultation to investigators on experimental design and feasibility
- 14) Develop and implement new cryo-EM methodologies and workflows.
- 15) Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and other scientific communications and support development of graphical or 3D representations of structural data
REQUIREMENTS
- 1) Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Computational Biology, or a closely related biomedical field
- 2) Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience including structural biology
- 3) Demonstrated expertise in structural biology methods and techniques, including cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and/or X-ray crystallography
- 4) Experience performing structural analysis and modeling of viral glycoproteins preferred
