The Senior Manager will support the execution and growth of the Foundation’s Funds function, helping coordinate teams, manage priorities, strengthen operating systems, and ensure commitments to funders, grantees, and internal stakeholders are delivered to a high standard. About the Role The GitLab Foundation’s Funds team develops and manages collaborative funds that bring philanthropic partners together to invest in shared economic mobility strategies. The team oversees the full lifecycle of each fund, including raising capital, managing funder relationships, selecting and supporting grantees, coordinating advisors and services, and managing reporting. The Senior Manager, Portfolio & Fund Operations will work closely with Fund Directors to oversee execution across the portfolio. The role will ensure that work is appropriately staffed, cross-functional teams are coordinated, and commitments to funders, grantees, and internal stakeholders are delivered at a high standard. The Senior Manager will anticipate gaps and bottlenecks, deploy resources where they are most needed, and lead projects or workstreams when additional senior-level ownership or capacity is required. Reporting to the Chief Programs & Portfolio Officer (CPPO) , the Senior Manager will also serve as a key operational partner to the CPPO, translating priorities into action and driving follow-through across the function. Key Responsibilities The Senior Manager will: Manage, coach, and develop Fund Coordinators, other direct reports, and consultants, setting clear expectations and providing regular feedback and development support. Manage team priorities, workload, and capacity, allocating resources and adjusting responsibilities as needs evolve. Establish clear ownership and accountability, ensuring work moves from planning through completion and commitments are delivered to a high standard. Monitor team performance and capacity, proactively addressing competing priorities, resource gaps, and performance issues. Establish and lead the Funds team’s ways of working, including cross-functional team meetings, stand‑ups, retrospectives, planning sessions, and other rhythms that support communication, coordination, decision‑making, and accountability. Foster a collaborative, high‑performing team culture aligned with the Foundation’s CREDIT values. Required Skills, Experience and Attributes Candidates should have: 7+ years of progressively increased responsibility in operations, program or portfolio management, business operations, consulting, philanthropy, or another mission-driven environment. At least 3 years of direct people management experience , with demonstrated experience leading teams and complex portfolios of work. Experience setting priorities, allocating resources, managing through others, and driving accountability across multiple stakeholders. Demonstrated experience owning and executing complex projects or workstreams, managing multiple priorities and stakeholders, and driving work forward with limited direction. Experience partnering effectively with senior leaders and external stakeholders. Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to anticipate needs and drive execution. Strong operational skills, including experience building and improving systems, processes, workflows, and team practices. Strong judgment, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Ability to navigate ambiguity, identify risks and bottlenecks, and determine when and where to step in. Experience in philanthropy, grantmaking, fund operations, or portfolio management is preferred. Compensation and Benefits The approximate total compensation package ranges from $130,000 to $170,000 , including comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, and other benefits. $105,000–$115,000 Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage Full premium coverage for team members, spouses, and dependents 401(k) contribution: GitLab Foundation contributes 10% of salary, with no employee contribution required Unlimited vacation, sick time, and other paid time off Additional team member benefits Travel 20% travel Location and Work Format This is a fully remote position , but the successful candidate must be based in the United States .
