Leukemia Program Head

Position Professor, Clinician/Scholar or Physician/Scientist – Leukemia Program Head Overview The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) invite nominations and applications to lead the Leukemia Program. The Program Head will oversee research and clinical programs in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and other myeloid malignancies. The role is dual‑appointed: a primary faculty appointment in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division or the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch, and a secondary appointment in the UW Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology. Responsibilities Strategically guide the Leukemia Program, ensuring alignment with institutional mission and goals. Develop and implement a comprehensive vision and strategy for AML and myeloid malignancies across the entire disease spectrum. Lead and support groundbreaking research initiatives, including preclinical studies, clinical trials, and translational research. Foster collaborations with bench researchers, translational researchers, clinical investigators at UW and Fred Hutch, and external industry partners, regulatory agencies, and funding organizations. Act as an academic, clinical, and educational leader: organize, direct, and expand research efforts for a team of clinical researchers conducting trials. Assist with faculty recruitment, oversight, and mentorship; promote professional development for team members. Represent the Program at national and international conferences, workshops, and symposia. Maintain relationships with external stakeholders and support grant and funding activities. Qualifications MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent). Board certification in hematology and/or medical oncology (or foreign equivalent). Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Washington. Record of substantial basic, translational, and/or clinical research in AML and/or myeloid malignancies, evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications, grants, and/or clinical trial experience. International reputation for leadership in AML and/or myeloid malignancies research and clinical excellence. Proven ability to secure NIH grant funding and successful track record of publishing.
