Eligibility Specialist II

$21.54 - $30.14 per hour

Position Summary Eligibility Specialist II (Grade 21, salary $21.54 - $30.14 per hour) is responsible for connecting Maine residents to key public assistance programs such as MaineCare, SNAP, TANF, and additional services. The position is located in Fort Kent and allows partial telework with management approval. Core Responsibilities Evaluate information and apply program standards to accurately determine complex eligibility decisions, often for multiple programs simultaneously. Use multiple technology systems to enter, review, and verify eligibility‑related data and documentation. Clearly explain program rules, requirements, and decisions to applicants and recipients in writing, over the phone, and in person. Review and process information received electronically or by mail to ensure completeness and compliance. Connect individuals with additional programs and services that may support their health and wellbeing. Engage in outreach efforts to provide program information, accept applications, and determine eligibility. Gather evidence, develop reports, and represent the Department at administrative hearings. Work with people from diverse backgrounds, using strong communication and interpersonal skills. Minimum Qualifications A four‑year combination of education, training, and/or progressively responsible experience in a social services setting that demonstrates interviewing and data‑gathering skills as needed to base eligibility determinations, claims resolutions, and/or customer service requests; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Business Administration, or other related field. Benefits State of Maine offers a comprehensive benefits package including: Paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation leave (up to 3+ weeks) annually. Health insurance coverage with the state paying 85%‑100% of employee‑only premiums. Dental insurance fully covered by the state. Retirement plan contribution of 14.11% of pay toward the Maine Public Employees Retirement System. Parental leave: six weeks of fully paid leave for all employees welcoming a child. Additional wellness benefits and programs available through the Office of Employee Health and Wellness. Unpaid leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
