Pediatric Clinical or Biochemical Geneticist
Pediatric Search Partners
Well-Established Team | Strong Genetic Counselor Support | Outstanding Quality of Life Pediatric Search Partners is engaged to conduct a national search for a Pediatric Clinical or Biochemical Geneticist to join the Division of Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine working at CHRISTUS Children’s in San Antonio, Texas. For a pediatric geneticist who would value a well-established team, outstanding genetic counselor support, strong hospital leadership, and an exceptional lifestyle, this is a rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing region with significant need for pediatric genetics care. The Division of Genetics is highly regarded within CHRISTUS Children’s and deeply integrated across the pediatric enterprise. The team currently includes four physicians and ten genetic counselors , creating a collaborative practice environment where physicians are well supported in caring for children and families with complex genetic and metabolic needs. The opportunity is also strengthened by the growth of San Antonio and South Texas. As the pediatric population continues to expand, demand for genetics services is significant, with more than 500 children currently waiting for genetics appointments. For the right physician, this offers the chance to join a collegial, mission-driven team and help expand access to care in a region where pediatric genetics is valued and needed. Candidates with training or experience in both clinical genetics and metabolism are especially encouraged to consider this opportunity, although metabolic training is not required. The division is open to candidates completing training as well as experienced physicians who are seeking a long-term home with strong team support, academic affiliation, and an outstanding quality of life. Why This Opportunity Stands Out A well-established and collegial genetics team Ten genetic counselors providing exceptional clinical support Strong hospital and pediatric leadership support Academic appointment through Baylor College of Medicine Significant patient need and opportunity for impact Pediatric focus within a freestanding children’s hospital Specialty clinic and multidisciplinary program involvement Light to moderate shared call A vibrant, affordable, and highly desirable Texas location Program Overview The Division of Genetics provides pediatric clinical genetics care through the downtown children’s hospital campus and selected outreach locations across the San Antonio region, including New Braunfels, Stone Oak, Westover Hills, and other growing areas. Telehealth capabilities are available, although this is primarily an on‑site, team‑based clinical role. The team works closely with pediatric subspecialists, inpatient services, outpatient clinics, and regional programs. Opportunities are available to participate in specialty and multidisciplinary clinics, including craniofacial, Prader‑Willi, cancer genetics, and other areas based on physician interest and program needs. The clinical model supports thoughtful, high‑quality care. New patient visits are generally scheduled for approximately 90 minutes, and follow‑up visits are generally scheduled for one hour. Full‑time physicians typically provide clinic coverage approximately four days per week, with patient volume ramping based on experience and program needs. Call is shared across the division and is generally considered light to moderate compared with many pediatric subspecialties. After‑hours calls are often manageable by phone, with occasional need for in‑person evaluation or inpatient rounding, particularly for metabolic patients. The Physician Who Will Thrive Here The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, clinically engaged pediatric geneticist who values team fit, communication, and thoughtful patient care. Qualified candidates should have an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree; be board‑certified or board‑eligible in Clinical Genetics or Biochemical Genetics; and be eligible for a Texas medical license. Most importantly, the division is seeking a physician who will enjoy being part of a collegial team, working closely with genetic counselors and pediatric subspecialists, and contributing to a program that is supported, valued, and positioned for continued growth. Compensation & Institutional Support These positions are employed by Baylor College of Medicine and offer a highly competitive salary and excellent benefits package. Baylor College of Medicine offers academic appointment, relocation support, comprehensive benefits, strong institutional resources, and the opportunity to practice in a mission‑driven children’s hospital environment with meaningful pediatric need and long‑term opportunity. About San Antonio The Alamo City is one of Texas’ most historic and appealing metropolitan areas, blending Old West history, Spanish heritage, rich diversity, and the energy of a major city with the warmth and ease of a close‑knit community. San Antonio is also one of the nation’s fastest‑growing major cities. Recent U.S. Census estimates show the city added nearly 24,000 residents from 2023 to 2024, ranking fourth nationally for numeric population growth. As San Antonio and South Texas continue to grow, the region offers significant long‑term opportunity for pediatric specialists serving children and families across a large and expanding referral area. Residents are drawn to San Antonio by its comparatively affordable housing, excellent public and private schools, more than 300 days of sunshine annually, mild winters, abundant green space, professional sports, world‑class restaurants, two major amusement parks, shopping, nightlife, entertainment, and a strong regional economy with varied professional opportunities for spouses and partners. The city continues to receive national recognition for its quality of life, culture, food, and visitor appeal. San Antonio was named one of Travel + Leisure’s favorite U.S. cities in the 2025 World’s Best Awards and was also included among Travel + Leisure’s best places to travel in 2025 , with recognition for its culinary innovation, history, walkability, and distinctive cultural character. On weekends, residents can enjoy the River Walk, the Pearl, museums, parks, restaurants, shops, galleries, Fiesta celebrations, and the wide‑open beauty of the Texas Hill Country with its rolling hills, big Texas skies, wineries, outdoor recreation, and charming towns such as Fredericksburg and Boerne. San Antonio is also well‑positioned for travel with convenient access to San Antonio International Airport and ongoing airport expansion and modernization. For coastal getaways, residents are within an easy drive of Corpus Christi and Port Aransas, with Galveston and South Padre Island also accessible for longer weekend trips.
