Physical Camera Systems Integration Technician

Position Summary

We are a leading physical security systems integrator specializing in the design, integration, installation, maintenance, and operation of technically complex integrated physical security management systems.

We are seeking an experienced Physical Camera Systems Integration Technician with strong technical, networking, programming/configuration, and troubleshooting skills. This position requires more than traditional low-voltage installation experience. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with enterprise-level IP video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, networking, servers, software platforms, and integrated security systems.

The technician will be responsible for installing, configuring, programming, troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting security systems both remotely and on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, program, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise physical security systems, including:
• • IP video surveillance systems
  • Video Management Systems (VMS)
  • Access control systems
  • Intrusion detection systems
  • Intercom and communication systems
  • Network-based security devices
  • Integrated physical security management platforms
• Configure and troubleshoot IP cameras, encoders, controllers, access control panels, card readers, relays, inputs/outputs, request-to-exit devices, door hardware, and related equipment.
• Configure advanced camera systems including PTZ, panoramic/180&degree;/360&degree;, multi-sensor, thermal, analytics-enabled, and high-resolution IP cameras .
• Perform programming and configuration of VMS and access control platforms, including users, permissions, schedules, alarms, events, recording profiles, camera streams, retention policies, access levels, and system integrations.
• Configure and troubleshoot network connectivity for security systems, including:
• • TCP/IP
  • IPv4 addressing and subnetting
  • DHCP and static addressing
  • DNS
  • VLANs
  • PoE
  • Managed network switches
  • Routing and firewall considerations
  • Ports and protocols
  • Bandwidth and network-performance issues
• Diagnose communication failures between cameras, servers, controllers, workstations, cloud platforms, and other network-connected devices.
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot Windows-based servers and workstations used in physical security environments.
• Perform firmware, software, server, camera, controller, and system upgrades while minimizing operational disruption.
• Conduct diagnostic testing and use appropriate troubleshooting tools, including digital multimeters, network utilities, cable testers, manufacturer diagnostic software, and system logs.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, network diagrams, floor plans, equipment schedules, and technical documentation.
• Troubleshoot low-voltage circuitry, relays, dry contacts, inputs/outputs, power supplies, grounding, and communication wiring.
• Integrate multiple security technologies into unified systems and verify proper communication between platforms.
• Provide remote and on-site technical support for customers experiencing system outages, camera failures, connectivity problems, access control issues, recording problems, or other system malfunctions.
• Identify root causes rather than relying solely on temporary fixes or equipment replacement.
• Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, IT personnel, field technicians, manufacturers, and other technical teams to successfully deploy and support security solutions.
• Communicate directly with clients to understand technical concerns, explain findings, and provide appropriate solutions.
• Train customers on proper system operation, basic troubleshooting, user management, video retrieval, access control operation, and other system functions.
• Maintain detailed documentation of service activities, programming changes, IP addresses, device configurations, equipment replacements, firmware/software versions, and system modifications.
• Maintain accurate equipment inventory and service records.
• Contribute technical knowledge and troubleshooting information to internal documentation and knowledge bases.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 3–5+ years of professional experience installing, programming, servicing, or supporting commercial/enterprise physical security systems.
• Demonstrated experience with enterprise Video Management Systems and Access Control Systems.
• Experience with platforms and manufacturers such as Genetec, Avigilon, Axis Communications, LenelS2, Feenics, CCURE, Bosch, Gallagher , or comparable enterprise security platforms.
• Manufacturer certifications are strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of IP networking and the ability to independently troubleshoot network-related security system problems.
• Strong experience with IP cameras, VMS platforms, access control hardware, network switches, relays, circuitry, and low-voltage systems.
• Ability to configure and troubleshoot cameras and security equipment through web interfaces, management software, command-line/network utilities, and manufacturer configuration tools.
• Experience troubleshooting complex problems involving multiple systems, including determining whether an issue originates from hardware, software, networking, configuration, power, cabling, or system integration.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, network diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency using digital multimeters and other electronic/network diagnostic tools.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PDF applications.
• Exceptional customer-service skills both over the phone and in person.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple service issues and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
• Ability to work independently in the field while also collaborating effectively with technical and project teams.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, emergency service situations, and evolving technology.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is not simply a camera installer or low-voltage technician. We are looking for someone who understands the entire technology stack behind a modern physical security system —from wiring and relays at the device level to networking, servers, software, databases, and system integration.

This individual should be capable of arriving at a site with a complex technical problem, systematically diagnosing the issue, determining the root cause, and implementing a reliable solution while communicating professionally with the customer.
