Principal AI Researcher

For our client, we are seeking a Principal AI Researcher to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space. This role will lead work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery. You will work across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within a technology-driven environment. Location: Pleasanton, CA - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available. Compensation: $228,000 – $342,000 annually. Responsibilities Define research direction in Agentic AI and LLMs Advance state-of-the-art agent systems involving retrieval, grounding, memory, and personalization Conduct foundational model research in pre-training and domain-specific alignment for HR and Finance Lead the company’s contributions to the global AI community through high-tier publications and open-source efforts Collaborate with engineering teams to transition research into scalable production services Mentor and develop a culture of scientific inquiry within the research team Qualifications 8+ years in AI/ML research or applied science, with experience scaling products from research to global use Ph.D. or Master’s in Computer Science, AI, Math, Physics, or related field 4+ years experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow 2+ years of expertise in LLMs or VLMs, focusing on training, alignment, or agentic reasoning Proven publication record as lead researcher in top AI venues or successful delivery of AI innovations to millions Benefits Flexible work arrangement allowing a mix of in-person and remote work Opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking AI research at a high-impact organization Participation in a vibrant research culture focused on ethical AI development Mentorship opportunities in a pioneering environment Chance to shape the culture and strategies of an emerging AI research team Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
