QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: Experience Actively employed by a California Law Enforcement Agency as a Peace Officer within the last twelve months. Requires successful completion of probation and possession of POST Basic Certificates. Training Graduation from a U.S. High School or the equivalent, with additional education at the community college level preferred. Licenses/Certificates Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, appropriate California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, which must be maintained as a condition of employment. Other requirements Minimum of 21 years of age at time of examination and must meet standards of adequate physical stature, endurance and agility. THE SELECTION PROCESS The most highly suitable and qualified candidates who demonstrate the best combination of knowledge, skills and abilities and have submitted a complete application, including all required materials, may be invited to participate in the examination process. Possession of minimum qualifications does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidates deemed most qualified following departmental interviews will be invited to subsequent phases of the selection process. Before a conditional employment offer is made, a thorough background check will be done, including a polygraph and fingerprint check. If successful, candidates are then required to successfully pass a psychological, medical examination, a drug screen, and must be able to furnish proof of legal right to work in the United States. Candidates may be disqualified at any point in this process. The City reserves the right to use alternate testing procedures if deemed necessary. State and Federal Law require that all police officers be free from felony or domestic violence convictions.
