Description
The Network Security Technician is responsible for supporting the College's network infrastructure and cybersecurity operations by installing, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting network systems and security technologies.

This position helps ensure the availability, performance, and security of wired and wireless network services while assisting with cybersecurity monitoring, incident response, user account security, and technology support for faculty, staff, and students. The technician collaborates with other IT staff to maintain a secure, reliable, and efficient technology environment that supports the College's academic and administrative mission.

The expected schedule for this position is Monday through Friday (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM); flexible as needed by department.
Salary offer will be commensurate with education and experience.

Examples of Duties

• Install, configure, monitor, and maintain campus network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and related network equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues involving wired and wireless networks, Internet access, VPN connectivity, and network services.
• Monitor network performance and assist with maintaining reliable and secure network operations.
• Monitor and respond to security alerts generated by endpoint protection and security monitoring systems.
• Review and respond to security notifications, escalating potential threats and incidents to appropriate IT staff as needed.
• Assist with cybersecurity incident response activities, including gathering information, documenting findings, and implementing remediation measures.
• Perform routine network maintenance, firmware updates, patch management, backups, and configuration reviews.
• Assist with administration and maintenance of firewalls, content filtering systems, endpoint security solutions, and multi-factor authentication systems.
• Maintain user account security, access permissions, and identity management systems in accordance with institutional policies.
• Document network configurations, security procedures, inventory records, and troubleshooting activities.
• Collaborate with Information Technology staff and external vendors on infrastructure upgrades, technology deployments, and special projects.
• Provide technical guidance and support regarding network access, account security, and cybersecurity best practices.
• Provide technical support coverage for faculty, staff, and students as needed, including troubleshooting hardware, software, account, and classroom technology issues during periods of increased demand or staff absence.
• Remain current with networking technologies, cybersecurity threats, and industry best practices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum

• Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Networking, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or related field. Two current industry certifications (CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA, or similar) and two (2) years of relevant networking or cybersecurity experience may be substituted for Associate degree.
• Experience troubleshooting network connectivity and performance issues
• Working knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, wireless networking, and VPN technologies.
• Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts including endpoint protection, access control, vulnerability management, and incident response.
• Ability to review system logs, alerts, and security notifications and follow established response procedures.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

• Experience supporting Cisco Meraki environments, including wireless, switching, and security appliances.
• Experience working with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and multi-factor authentication administration.
• Experience with vulnerability scanning, endpoint security solutions, and security awareness initiatives.
• Experience working in higher education, K-12, government, or enterprise IT environment.
